Is the part an internal controller or do I replace the whole keypad depending on cause for this? If latter option, where is the keypad available? Also need the height/width & depth specs if getting a new unit is better d/t improved efficiency in cooking and power consumption.

You can fix it without the aid of a repairman. Simply unplug the microwave and remove the outer casing. There should be a few screws around the bottom edge and back panel. Once you have the unit open, look for where the power cord comes in. There should be a circuit board with a fuse mounted to it. This is your input line filter. The fuse should be a 20 amp appliance fuse that you can pick up at any hardware store (Lowe's and Home Depot both carry them). DO NOT op test with the outer casing removed. Potentials of about 14,000 volts are present in the high voltage network of a microwave oven. Close the unit up BEFORE you power it back up. Let me know if this helps.

This may have already been dealt with, but others can benefit from an accurate, thoughtful reply to this problem.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

By the way, modern microwave ovens here in the US don't have an "input line filter", and the high voltage output is only 3-4000 volts DC, not 14,000 volts. It's still quite lethal, but I like to be accurate. Helps the old credibility, eh? Older black and white CRT-type TVs used 10,0000 volts and color models used 25,000 volts. Maybe this is what caused the previous confusion? Be safe!

Numbers 4,7,8,9,0 and Beverage on pad do not work. Others do work, do I have to replace the oven? (Spacesaver JVM1440WH04) Over stove oven installed in Feb 2007, in use 4 months each year. This problem...

No you can have the keypad replaced. It may be something as simple as a dis-lodged keypad ribbon connection where it mates to the control panel recepticle. If you look here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=JVM1440 there are several model numbers it seems you did not provide all of the numbers but the keypad is the same. The key panel here is $75.00 http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=JVM1440 Then you add a service call or shop charge your looking at well over a $100.00 repair. Your call on how to proceed. Good luck.

GE JVM1440 over the counter microwave

If the internal cooling fan is not working (I don't mean the hood / vent / exhaust fan) then you should not use the microwave until it is fixed.

The cooling fan is essential to prevent the magnetron from overheating and being damaged.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Surface Light & Vent Fan Won't Work

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.
