Hi,
I have a Kenmore 70 Series Dryer Type 180-00 / 66712694. The dryer won't start unless I hold the power button and turn the timer as the button is held down. When the timer reaches certain areas on the dial, the dryer will start, but sometimes it takes just the right position to allow me to let go of the push button so it continues. After that, it works fine until the next load. It does this in the auto dry or the timed dry option. It heats fine, etc. I am thinking it is a faulty timer, but would like a second opinion since the timers are close to $100. Thanks for your input!

SOURCE: Kenmore dryer 70 Series doesn't shut off, timer continues to run
there are 2 different kinds of units made back then.
one has a push to start button that could have a stuck contact causing the unit to think you are pushing the button and want it to run again.
the other could have a stuck motor switch and thats not available separately. you would have to replace the motor. try to clean any lint out of the motor if you have that type. use compressed air to blow the lint out of the motor. it usually works to get the lint out and it can cause the switch to stick.
