The new Sony DVD drive installed on a new Gigabyte motherboard will not burn a CD and takes a long time to recognize a disk when it is put into the unit. My hard drive is a SATA drive and the CD is an EIDE drive on the IDE port.
I down loaded a drive test utility from Sony to check the drive and it will write and read to the drive but I am unable to get any other software to work with the drive. My thought was this must be a driver issue and Sony doesn't supply any drivers for this DVD unit, I am running XP Pro SP3.
When I check on the drive in the device manager it shows up as a SCSI DVD. I tried uninstalling the Gigabyte Raid/SCSI driver but then the DVD drive doesn't show up at all. (I am not running RAID).

If the SATA drive is operating in 3.0 Gbps mode and your motherboard can only support 1.5 Gbps mode, the drive will not be detected in BIOS or XP. Try jumpering the drive to SATA 1.5 Gbps mode. The label on your hard drive should indicate which pins should be shorted to achieve this setting; if not, look up your particular model on WD's website to find the manual.

This one should be right for you, remember to put it on a floppy, since XP needs a floppy for a 3rd party driver during install.. good luck!
