Screen goes white with stripes

For about 2 months now my laptop screen will, without explanation, suddenly go white. If there is a DVD playing the sound will continue but the screen does not recover and I have to turn it off using the button. There is no consistent pattern, it can be browsing, working or watching a DVD. It is happening more and more frequently. I took it to a computer shop who says I need to replace the screen at a cost of at least £250, because it has failed, convenient as the warranty has just expired! Just requiring a second opinion before I go and spend loads of money. Thank you very much!

I would borrow an external monitor to see if that gives the same problem before agreeing to any repairs. My instinct is that this is a chip problem and you should be able to find a repairer to do the job for less. Ebay will supply you with replacement screens for less, if that is the problem.

When I am playing a game the screen will suddenly go to black and white stripes and the only way to fix it is to restart the computer. It happens about once an hour

the main be a loose ribbon connector at the board. thdis will require a tech to look at it, Usually white stripes and going black on laptops is loose connectors.

Yellow Stripe Down Middle of Screen on Laptop

This system has a VGA port so you can plug in an external monitor. You can buy one for less than $130 based on the Sunday ads. Other than that, it is new laptop time.

Is my screen broken?

Hello, I am really sorry about what happened to your laptop.
99% of those cases require a replacement of the screen.
I suggest you should visit a technician and check if there is a broken part of the screen where is leaking a liquid. Laptop screens have liquid crystals and probably that liquid is leaking inside.
For sure the laptop screen can be bought seperately and it can be replaced.

Dark Vertical Stripe on Right Edge of Screen

I experienced the same approx. 1/2" vertical stripe on a Viewsonic vx1945 and ATI Radeon x1050 video adapter on Vista Business SP1, but the stripe appeared along the left edge of the screen, instead of right edge. I then temporarily decreased the monitor resolution, and the stripe went away. I then increased the monitor resolution back to its original setting, and the stripe did not re-appear. So, that was the 'fix' in my situation, hope this helps.

Frozen screen... !

Under a year? Still under warranty? Sound like bad video processor on the mainboard.

Boot the laptop, enter bios setup... let it sit there for a while and see if it does. If it does, then its a hardware problem and not a windows problem... but I am almost certain thats a video hardware issue... check for warranty repair.
