When you change the zoom, chances are the camera lose focus, and you need to half-press the shutter button again to the camera autofocus.

Its normal behavior to lose focus when zooming in or out.

SOURCE: my laptop and desktop does not recognize the canon

Hi.

If the camera USB connection was working before and the problem suddenly happened on two different computers, then it is not a matter of driver.
Try removing the camera batteries. Remove both main battery and coin shaped battery. Allow the camera to rest five minutes with no battery. The power drain may resolve issues caused by accumulation of electrostatic charges.

While camera is OFF turn off the desktop, disconnect power cord, connect back and restart. (I don't think the computer is responsible...just in case do PC power drain and restart to do the same on laptop also remove battery).

Connect back the camera using a DIFFERENT USB cable.

If that still does not work, then one of the contact in the camera USB socket may be faulty. Check if there is a bent pin. If there is nothing visible, then one of the solder joints at the back of the camera may have lost connection. In that case the camera must be disassembled and repaired. If you need to send the camera for repair see the number listed on the owners manual or get a quote online here (working days):Repair. An alternative to repair could be using an external card reader.

Do first the troubleshooting suggested at start of my comment.

Regards.

Ginko

My Canon EOS Rebel XT 350d will not autofocus.

Sound like a broken ribbon cable in the lens. Needs to be replaced but get a quote as it may be cheaper to replace the lens with a secondhand one.

I have a Canon EOS 550D camera fitted with a Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-200mm lens. I bought both together sometime early in 2010 from London Camera Exchange, Nottingham. I am not in Nottingham at the moment,...

Just a thought - are your Image Stabilizer and Auto Focus switches On or Off?
Might be worth experimenting with them.
Otherwise, sorry, can't help.
May be necessary to contact your vendor.

I have the Canon EOS - older model - and when using with my Canon Zoom Lens 70-300 mm it does not work on auto focus but will with manual focus.

Clean the contacts on the camera body and lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Canon Digital Rebel XT auto focus

Auto Focus does not determine exposure. Only sharpness. "Wrong" exposure could be due to the metering mode being set in Spot Metering. Set it back to Evaluative Metering which may improve the overall even exposure of your shots. Test your shots in full auto or P mode. M (Manual) mode will require you to check the exposure setting manually (you can see the indicator in the viewfinder when you half-press the trigger)

The LCD does not come on when camera is turned on. How do I fix this.

The EOS 350D does not have a Live View function like the compact point and shoot cameras (Panasonic Lumix, Powershot, IXUS etc). You need to look through the viewfinder to compose your shot. The LCD only displays menu settings and images you have already captured (Play Button). Later models of EOS D-SLRs come with Live View but still doesn't have auto focus and you have to focus manually (eg EOS 450D, EOS 40D, etc)

Canon Eos Rebel xti won't take a picture when zoomed in

Try a different lens just to check out the lens focus sensor. or put it in manual focus.

Canon lins

This is normal. The zoom ring will stop at each end of the zoom range, but the focus ring will rotate freely, there is no "end" or "stop" to the focus ring.
