Service Call: 173: Fatal Error

My okidata c5150 keeps having the attention button light up with the Service Call: 173: Fatal Error message appearing. After warming up and adjusting color and density, this error always appears. People have told me to reseat drums and cartridges, which I have done, and to change outlet, I have done that also, and have had no such luck fixing the problem. Any advice is much appreciated!

Other advice said it is time to replace the fuser when you get a Fatal Error 173. But I just replaced the fuser, and now we get this 173 fatal error periodically. Any ideas?

  • francos Oct 18, 2008

this same error message started happening to me after i changed the fuser.

  • franf Feb 12, 2009

I replaced the fuser, then started getting this error. I got ANOTHER new fuser and put it in (thinking my new one was defective) and STILL get the error. Replacing the fuser is not fixing it ..... ?

That is a fuser erron code. Abnormal temperature. You will need to replace the fuser. Sometimes I have sen a buildup of toner on the thermistor. If you can get to it. You can try to clean the toner off. Be careful. Very hot.

Service call 172: Error or 173: Error is Abnormal temperature detected by fuser thermistor (high-temp or low temp.) this is a bad fuser error more than likely when it says this you will need to replace the fuser assembly

If the printer is stored in a cold area, this error may come up. Allow the printer to warm up and try again.

If you can get to the thermistor, it could be coated with toner, clean the sensor with alcohol.

paper jam is a main issue in printer when you clear the paper jam normally a tiny piece of paper falls into the printer and the printer get stuck again to clear the printer of tiny piece remove the toner and use a light blower and blow away the piece of paper this should be done only after removing the power and the usb from the printer after cleaning connect the power and the usb and restart your computer

I have a OKI C5500N, keep getting the message ''Service Call, 173: Fatal Error'' I have tried turning it off then on, which has worked before, but today it is not working.

1. Remove All files that were installed before 'fatal error' using 'Printer Util.exe' or similiar file available in your CD.

2. Install software 'Dial-A-fix'. (Dial-a-fix is a collection of 'known fixes' that have been compiledover the past year that really knock out some serious Windows problems....)

http://www.download3k.com/DownloadLink1-Dial-a-fix.html

3. Run the 'Dial-a-fix.exe' Software and select 'Fix Windows Installer' & 'Empty Temp Folder' options and click 'Go' button.

4. Restart your computer, run the your printer CD, you should have no problem. (don't connect the printer/device until the cd Setup prompts you to)

Fatal error 173?

It points to an internal error. It may be from the fuser unit. Make sure all the wires are connected praoperly and that you didn't disconnect anything when you repalced the fuser. If the problempersists, you'll have to take it in for service.

Okidata c5200n printer 173:FATAL ERROR. What is this? How do I fix it?

In the fuser unit the Heat roller thermister indicates a low temperature error. Replacing the fuser unit will usually resolve this. Fuser units are consumable items bur for an early life failure such as this it may be worth contacting the manufacturer.
