My Nikon D2x is having shutter problems, HELP!

My Nikon D2x takes a photograph then the message "ERR" comes up on the top control readout. To make this message go away I have to fire the shutter again. Then it works as normal for one frame.
The mirror stays down for the second shutter release but it still makes a shutter sound. No image is recorded on the second shutter release. I have tried it with the Nikkor 50mm f1.4, Nikkor 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 DX and with no lens at all but this doesn't make any difference.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am a student and cannot afford to replace it.
Thanks Leo.

The only time i have ever seen this on my D2x is when the lens isnt snapped all the way on. but since you have tried several lenses, i am sure they are snapped on. this leads me to believe something is wrong with one of the contacts on the camera where the lens snaps on--check them to be sure they are springing out and clean. check the owners manual to see if there is another cause for this message.

Err message displays, won't take photo

The Nikon D-90 users manual says on page 256 that the ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter.

I've found on my D-90 that the only way I can get the shutter to release is my turning the camera off. When I turn it back on the ERR message is gone and the camera functions as it should.

Occasionally, I have had to remove and reinstall the battery to make the camera turn off but this happens only rarely.

The users manual says if the condition occurs frequently or persists that you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center. I suggest that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. I think this information would apply to the D-80 as well.

Nikon d80 camera shows err error, when shutter is pressed the amount of shots remaining, shows er07. shutter works, but no picture is taken. Bracketing sign is also on display and wont go off.l

failure of the aperture unit is the usual cause - usually the contacts for the phase switch have come loose from the gear. You can find info on this by searching for the problem on the internet, including how to repair it.

How do i replace the shutter on my nikon d2x

If you're asking how to replace the shutter yourself, you need to rethink this. Shutter replacement is a complicated procedure and is best done by a certified Nikon repair facility.

My D90 sometimes has an err message and also a CHA in the the ISO mode. Also there is a green LED on the back of the camera that stays on. The only way to get all this cleared is a battery pull. When this...

CHA indicates a problem with the SD card. ERR indicates a camera malfunction. Try reformatting the card which may clear the problem or try a different card. The card may be creating the ERR message. On page 259 of the D-90 users manual, Nikon says this error can be cleared by releasing the shutter but the shutter will not release unless you turn the camera off and back on. Rarely, I have to remove the battery and reinstall it before the shutter will release. The camera will not function at all until the battery is reinstalled.

If you cannot resolve this problem using the above suggestions, I'd recommend that you contact Nikon technical support at www.nikon.com and see if they can help.

Apperture on Nikon d2x doesn't close after 3.5-4.5

You need to "lock" the lens at the smallest aperature. With the lens removed from the camera, rotate the ring to the smallest aperture, which is the largest number (like 16 or 22). Next to that number you will see a small slide switch. Move that switch. It loocks that ring at that setting.

Remount the lens and try.

How to set up a photograph of a home interior so that exposure of indoor room features closely matches exposure of outdoors as seen through the window. Am using D300 and D2X with three SB-800 flash units....

Some cameras have a slower shutter speed setting that will give you this affect. A tripod will be needed as shooting at slower speeds can cause blur from a shaky hand.
