LCD Displaying Red instead of Black, Vertical Lines in Display

I have a Sony KDL-46XBR4 LCD flat panel. Recently, the whole background of the picture has gone red. If you look closely, you can see that the red background is made up of vertical lines 1 pixel in width, alternating with black vertical lines of 2 or 3 pixels in width. Occasionally, the picture flashes back to a perfect condition, so I know the problem is not with the panel itself, since it is still capabe of displaying a flawless picture. Anyone have any ideas. This was an expensive set, just out of warranty. I live in the North and am not close to a service center. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem where the screen went to a pink shade periodically. Sony sent me a memory stick, with download instructions, that fit into one of the back ports. The problem has gone away. It was a software correction.

I have coloured vertical lines covering my Sony Bravia LCD tv screen. The TV is only 2 years old. I have sound but a very distorted picture. The cable company has checked and says it's a tv problem. I will...

I also have a 2 yr old Sony KDL32xbr4 that now has multi-colored vertical lines on the screen. I contacted Sony and they say they have "no known issue" of this sort for this model. I find this rather puzzling since I have found numerous postings on the web. They told me to try the factory reset. Whatever. Might as well have said "don't buy a Sony". 2 years! $1300 for a tv and it lasts 2 years! Makes me sick to my stomach.

Well if the panel is bad it would not clear up in any situation, so its not the panel. most likely the t-con board or just poor connections inside. Julio Millenium TV in Las Vegas.

I have a Sony KDL 46XBR4 LCD TV. Perfect sound but defective picture- first black screen, then vertical color lines that move. After 1-1/2 hours picture is perfect. Any advise on what is the problem/what...

You probably have a bad LCD Panel. It is a common failure. If the unit is out of warranty, call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they could help with the cost of repair. They would require a Service facility to evaluate it to be sure it is the Panel.
Hope this helps,

Vertical red lines on screen

LCD correct?

There are 2 types of lines they may be showing, both requiring the replacement of the LCD Panel.

1. Delamination Lines- they are usually multiple vertical lines that do NOT flow from the top to bottom of the screen. Looks look water dripped down or something similar

2. Single/Multiple Vertical lines - This is normally 1 or maybe a few solid vertical lines that travel from Top to bottom. I belive in some cases they may only travel to the screen center.

In both cases, this will always show when the TV is ON. Even if there is no signal being input to the TV. There are other possibilities but these can be the most common. Both require a new panel.
