Called a repair man, he adjusted the convergence, with a remote for Mitsubishi. (I lost mine years ago). He thinks that is what was causing the TV to turn off. Time will tell if that cured it.
My tv didn't turn green, but the red separated significantly. It started off happening after a few minutes of being on (I suppose the defective part was "warming up"), then it got to where it was like that immediately upon turning the tv on. In my case, I had to pay a tv repair man $350 for a new part. There are 2 microcircuits that control the color alignment--one that controls the red only, and the other controlls the other 2 colors, blue and green I believe. Maybe your part is the blue/green controller, mine was red. The repair man said these parts fail so rarely they don't stock the part. The cost of repair may be different for a different part, but either way you have to choose if it's worth that cost to you. If you get rid of it, I'll buy your tv stand ;-), I bought mine from a friend and didn't get the stand in the deal.
This would be the little sensor on the light wheel. Its cheap, you can get them online for around $2. You will need to take the light engine out and remove the color wheel cover and remove the color wheel and then remove the sensor. You will have to desolder the sensor and remove it to replace with the new one. What is happening is the sensor is overheating and not tracking the color wheel properly there for the colors get messed up. Once you replace the sensor the tv should work like normal. The part is (Sharp GP2S40 Photointerrupter). It is very difficult to find because they are not made anymore. Most major online part stores do not carry them but I found a lot of them at Wright Hobbies. Good luck.
Color separation is called convergence mis-alignment......that problem can be repaired...............Blurry,darker when cold may be a bit of difficulty..............Have a skilled tech give it a look.....T.
When you let it sit for approx. 15 minutes it will come back on and usually stay on. I've also noticed that the color will fade in and out at times.
during 15 mts of your sitting do you get sound & less brightness then problem in video or luminance section.
if picture is dim & color will fade in and out at times then possibility of crt is getting less voltage on g2.
if set is old then there is a possibility of crt getting weak.
but if the above things are not there then problem in power supply.
good luck
