XP audio codecs

I did a fresh install of XP Pro on my Compaq desktop and now I have no sound from my speakers. In Control Panel-Sounds/Audio Devices/Audio/Sound playback in the Default Device it states ' No default device selected'. I got no hardware errors during installation. On the Hardware tab there are no audio codecs listed. I have XP Pro on my laptop and followed along with the desktop to compare the two and on my laptop there is SigmaTel Hig Definition Audio CODEC and Audio Codecs listed in the Devices box. Is there a download avialable to fix this issue, I have not been able to find one so far. Any help is greatly appreciated. My email: [email protected]

If XP has not automatically loaded the sound drivers in instalation, then the sound chip on your motherboard is not one of the generic drivers loaded into XP so you will need to go to the compaq web site for the driver, but you have not posted the exact model, so go to the link below and look for your model and then download the drivers you need. http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/

No sound after i update my os to xp pro svc pack2

Looking at VIA's page on the P4M266 and scrolling down, it shows you're using South Bridge VT8233/8233A/8233C. Going to VIA Arena and selecting XP, Audio, and VIA AC97 codecs incorporated into VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C, VT8235 and VT8237/R South Bridges takes me to the audio driver you need. Just click the above link and get it.

Good luck!

Appears to be installed properly but doesn't record

When you first connect the turntable, Windows XP (and Mac OSX) will often select the "USB Audio Codec" as the audio input and output for your entire system. Since your turntable does not have speakers, audio will not be heard from your programs until you tell Windows not to use the turntable as an output device. Here's how to change these settings so that your internal sound card will always be used for playback whether or not your ION TTUSB is connected via USB:
    For Windows:
  1. On the bottom left of your screen, select the "Start" menu.
  2. Select "Settings" then "Control Panel".
  3. In the window that opens, select the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. (If you don't see a choice called "Sounds and Audio Devices," choose the "Switch to Classic View" option in the panel on the left of the window, and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon should become available in the list on the left.
  4. Select the "Audio" Tab at the top of the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel window.
  5. Under "Sound Playback," choose your internal sound card as the default device. This varies by computer but should not be set to "USB Audio Codec" or "Microsoft Sound Mapper".
  6. Under "Sound Recording," select "USB Audio Codec" for your default device.
  7. Check the box titled "Use only default devices".
  8. Click "Apply"...then "OK".

    For Mac:
  1. Open your Hard Disk.
  2. Open your "Applications" folder.
  3. In the "Applications" folder, open the "Utilities" folder.
  4. In the "Utilities" folder, open the "Audio MIDI Setup".
  5. In the "Audio MIDI Setup" under Audio Devices, set:

    • "Default Input" to "USB Audio Codec"
    • "Default Output" to "Built In Audio"
    • "System Output" to "Built in Audio"

Now, all programs, including Audacity, will only use your internal sound card for audio output.
