SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

SOURCE: head alignment

Your problem sounds more like a blocked nozzle and that would require a cleaning routine to be run.
You need to access the tools section of your printer. This is often done in the printer utility app if the printer doesn't have direct access on its own control panel.

When I put a new Black ink in my Canon MX452 it shows my black as empty

Hi

if the black cartridge is genuine and new...take it back. It is faulty.
If the cartridge is refilled or compatible...hold the STOP button for 6+ seconds to disable ink monitoring. This should clear the 'empty' error and the printer should work again.

good luck!

Ink is leaking out of ink tanks and filling up maintenance cartridge. Had a extra print head (used) and it did the same thing

1- Remove ALL the ink cartridges from the printer

2- Check that there is no residual tape on the cartridges.

3- Then clean the contacts on the cartridges as well as inside the printer itself

NOTE: Clean the contacts with a small amount of warm water on a cotton swab until no ink comes off on the swab.

4- If any of the other cartridges are low, empty, leaking or bulging, replace them with genuine and original ones.

5- Then turn off the machine and unplug it for 60 seconds

6- Insert the cartridges and check to see if the issue persists

Unrecognized ink cartridge

This model Canon/Epson printer may only let you use genuine Canon printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the Canon cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled. This means you need to purchase and install genuine printer cartridges.

I have replaced the empty black ink and the light wont go out. What do I do?

....So hold down the stop/reset button for more than 5 seconds when the PC tells you the cartridge is empty and stops you. Won't make the light go out (only new genuines will do that) but you will be able to print.

Hi! I has refill my ink cartridges for canon mp490 printerbut I don't know how to reset it to make it print.i know you may have more idea then me.thanks for your help.thanks

Welcome to the world of Canon. Simply put, the PG-210 CL-211 cartridges have what I like to call "digital fuses" built in. One fuse for "new" and one for "empty". When you install a new Canon cartridge both "digital fuses" are intact. The "new" fuse tells the printer that it is a new genuine Canon cartridge and resets the page counter internal to the printer. With the page counter reset, the printer "blows" the "digital fuse" and that cartridge enters the used state. When the page counter on the printer believes the cartridge to be completely empty it will "blow" the second "digital fuse" and the printer will from then on refuse to recognize it as a valid cartridge. Some claim to have ways around this, but Canon really has won this battle. My Cartridge World store does not refill these cartridges and does not recommend refilling them. Buying original Canon cartridges is what we recommend.

I replaced the black in cartridge on a Canon MP620 with a non-OEM cartridge. Everything seems to work fine, bu I keep getting a message that the cartridge is empty. I moved the chip from the original...

When you moved the original chip to the new cartridge, the chip is saying the cartridge is empty. Try removing the chip and the printer should know the cartridge is not empty, but might give you a message that it is not a genuine Canon cartridge.

RECOGNITION OF GENUINE CANON INK CARTRIDGE

I posted the original problem. Although the cartridge was genuine I had taken it out and reinserted it as I wasn't sure I had loaded it correctly the first time. Advice from my local retailer was that this was a mistake. Canon PIXMA printers no longer recognise a cartridge once it has been removed. Solution was another new cartridge which I shan't remove until it's empty. When this second cartidge is empty I shall try the first cartridge again as it is still full and unused. It has yet to print anything! Why Canon's helpdesk couldn't help is a mystery. I conclude that Canon's printer management systems are unfriendly to users. They are friendly only to Canon. I hope my experience will help others especially those considering buying a Canon printer. dudbob
