Code F1 means a stuck button. I removed the interface and lightly sprayed each with contact cleaner. So far this is working. The interface costs about $160 and contact cleaner, $10. Good luck.

I'm sorry F2 is the stuck button code. I posted to you by mistake.

  • Anonymous Mar 18, 2009

I'd still try the cleaner though

I'm trying to recover my system, but everytime I push F11 to get to the System Recovery Manager, I get a repeating Beep.

That sounds like it might be "POST" code beeping out at you. If it goes beep beep beep (pause) beep beep (pause), or something like that, etc.... then it is definitely a POST code. It can be anything from a bad or unseated video card, to a loose memory DIMM card.

The computer's BIOS chip is hardwired to a dedicated speaker, if something goes wrong (like your video card is roached), it beeps out a series of beeps (not unlike Morris code). Check the manufacture's website, see what BIOS your model is using (AMI, PHOENIX, ETC..), and then look up their website to interpret the code you are getting. The computer Mfg.'s manual might also have that BIOS POST code information in it too.

Please give more detailed information about the beeping sequence. Like, does it ONLY beep after pressing the F11 key once, or because your holding it down (keyboard buffer is full then). Are the beeps continuous, or are their pauses between beeps (if pauses, count number of beeps between pauses until it repeats, usually has a long pause before it repeats if BIOS POST CODE). Also, did something happen just prior to your computer going belly up, or did it just not want to turn on one day? Give as much information as possible (make, model, OS, etc) about your computer, and what its symptoms are. The more info I have, the better I can help you.

THE RED LIGHT IS ON AND BEEPS EVERY MINUTE

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, provice make and model of your system and maybe we can find out that way. Is it one long beep? Are there any other beeps and/or a sequence. A good place to start and alot of times, depending on your bios, 1 to 3 beeps means a problem with the RAM(memory). If you have more than 1 stick, you can pull them out, restart and if the beep is the same, you've probably found your culprit. You can then insert one at a time in one of your slots, then restart. If this works, you've found a good stick. If not, try another slot and restart, etc. Try all sticks in all slots.
