SOURCE: Canon G9 stopped working

I sent my dead G9, still under warranty, insured, to Canon on Nov. 21. I got it back on Dec. 3, with a note that they had replaced the cameras guts. Works like a charm now. Outside of warranty, I'd suggest contacting Canon.

SOURCE: somebody was using my canon powershot g9 and when ...

Camera likely has a common short that comes up on the G9 camera. You just need to get the camera serviced and you'll be back in business again. The site that specializes in service for the powershots is: camerasandparts.com They're amazing if you need help with one of these, that's all they deal with. The good thing with them is they do the correction so that common short never comes back again on the G9. Good luck, that's the place if you need help with a powershot model, they're excellent when it comes to service for these.

I turned my Cannon G9 camera on and 'lens error. restart camera' is the message I see. The lens will not retract and the camera does not function at all except for the message and the opening...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Lens error - could be sand in lens

Maybe you got sand or salt water (a killer in any electronic device)? Best contact the experts; you may need parts replaced.

Our G9 is stuck with the lens zoomed out. If we turn it on or turn it off, no change, stuck.

Go with this place: www.camerasandparts.com They charge $89 for the lens error service package on the G9 and they do excellent work. The neat thing with them is they don't just do the repair, they service the camera up as well, plus shipping going back is included in their service package too which is nice. Much more affordable than Canon and they are experts on the Powershots, the Canons are all they specialize in! I hope that helps you with getting it going again.

Lens error, restart camera

Hi,

This error occured when lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting. When pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed due External shock or liquid, sand & dirt etc. enters the camera.

Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:

1) Do not touch Lens while shooting.
2) Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.

If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera OFF and then ON again then your device need to be repaired.

Have a nice day Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Was shooting with Canon PowerShot S3 IS and the lens won't retract, screen says lens error, restart camera. I have restarted camera, changed batteries etc... still nothing. You can hear a clicking sound like...

The lens mechanism had probably got some dust, sand or grit jamming it and stopping it from retracting. Sadly the lens will be difficult to repair yourself as it needs to be completly stripped from the camera. Find a good repair shop and get a quote locally.

My lens won't close. How do I fix it?

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

How do you restart the Canon G9 camera?

There is not way to reset it if you get “lens error”. The lens stuck, you need to send it for repair.

Canon power shot g9 lens

Your best bet would be to have it serviced by a professional to get you going again, those are really excellent cameras. If you'd like to have it repaired, you can have the G9's repaired here: www.camerasandparts.com This place just does the Canons exclusively, they don't work on any other models. The best part, the work through them is superb and they are not expensive at all. It runs $89 for parts / labor on the repair and the servicing for the camera included. Plus they cover shipping back which we like. The best part is the work through them just excellent on the Canons, they'd be the place if you want to have it fixed. Hope that helps you with it, all the best. That's a great little camera.

I have a Cannon Powershot SD600, just got it recently and it worked great, then all of a sudden I noticed the cover lens's that slide over to protect the lens when you shut it off were messed up. Onle 1...

The Canon series are fine camera's, but they seem to suffer from lens errors (check how many people suffered from this by googling lens error canon).
The problem seems to come from sand/dust entering the body and jamming the lens gear. A handy person may be able to fix it, but I think Canon should have designed an enclosed lens gear so sand/dust can not enter.

Camera's are commonly carried in pockets, so it is logical sand and dust can be expected.

There are some issues with getting perfect focus in some situations.

SD450 is won't turn on, and is stuck with the lens extended

usually dust particles or the slight dislocation of gears..... one of the simplest solution is when you turn the camera on try rotating the lens clockwise very very softly ..... dont force it or it will get damaged....... 90% times it works
