I recently bought and installed a Sharp R-1870 Over the Stove Microwave Oven. Thought it would be a good idea to purchase the recommended RK-220 optional grease trap as the two filters that come with the oven and slide into slots on the bottom are just metal mesh and don't contain any charcoal. The owners manual said the RK-220 filter was the one I needed so I ordered it from the Sharp website. Finally got around to trying to install it today and find there's no way it fits this oven. I am trying to contact Sharp and see if they will slightly bend their 30 day return policy (it has been 39 days since I ordered it)and take back the wrong filter and send the one or ones I need. Maybe those that came with it are all that's available. If so, their owner's manual should be changed.
I also have a Sharp over the Range Microwave oven that requires a charcoal filter. But my diagram shows that the charcoal filter goes behind the slotted panel at the top of the microwave. To reach the filter, you must remove a screw on the top edge of the microwave. This allows the panel to come off. Your charcoal filter goes there. Since your oven is new, you do not need to change this filter yet because it's not dirty. I would save it for future use.
According to my book, there are two kinds of filters with this oven. The charcoal filter is the one behind the front panel. The Grease filters ARE the two metal mesh ones. They can be cleaned with hot soapy water, or I put mine in the dishwasher.
