Try installing the touchpad driver from here http://www.helpjet.net/files-Acer-Aspire-4810T.html#ATouchpad
Once you are done restart your Acer and see what happens.
If this doesnt resolve the issue it may be a problem with the hardware in which case you may need a new touchpad. otherwise just use a mouse as a fix either temporarily or if it turns out to be to expensive to fix.
First, check to be sure the touchpad is not disabled. On most laptops, this is done by pressing fn and one of the F keys across the top. Look for a key labeled with a touchpad drawing.
If this does not help, you may need to check the internal cable on the touchpad. This can however be difficult. The casing and keyboard would both need removed, which should reveal a ribbon cable attaching the touchpad to the Motherboard. If you are uncomfortable doing this take the computer to a qualified technician;
inside xp you can go to the hardware section and uninstall the usb drivers. when you reboot the drivers refresh for the usb and you can continue as usual.
kINDLY CONNECT A USB KEYBOARD AND/OR MOUSE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE NOTE BOOK IF USB KEYBOARD/ MOUSE (EXTERNAL NORMAL USB DESKTOP KEYBOARD MOUSE). THEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO TROUBLE SHOOT
Just resolved same problem on Acer Aspire 5000 by removing the battery, then goto device manager and disable "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" you can then put your existing battery back into the latop with any problems with the keyboard and touchpad. Mad solution I know but it worked for me
