Memory card error with new memory card

I have a powershot A75. with old memory card i get a "memory card error". figured the memory card was toast. bought brand new card, put it in the camera and still getting the "memory card error" fault message. wondering if there is a software update for the camera or if the camera itself is toast.

Hi there, welcome to FixYa.

Let's work on the camera first.
1) Turn the camera off and remove the battery and the card.
2) Put the battery back in without the card and turn it on.
3) Turn the camera off and insert the CF card.
4) Turn the camera back on again.
See if that takes the message away.

If it doesn't leave me a comment and we go to step 2.
If it does, thanks for coming to FixYa.

I followed all of the steps and I still got the error message. What is step 2?

You need to format the card using the camera. Directions are in the manual.

How much for memory card canonpowershot a75

That depends on the size and speed of the card(s) you choose. The A75 uses CompactFlash Type 1 cards. You don't really need a fast card.

I just purchased a Powershot A1100 and cannot figure out how to load pictures onto the Memory card. Thanks

Are you trying to load pictures onto the card using a computer? It doesn't work that way. Format the card in the camera and have fun with your new camera.

NO memory card Problem - Powershot 550

More likely one of the spring contacts in the camera that connect to the SD card has become weak causing the problem.

Canon Powershot A75 faulty memory card slot

It's possible a pin is bent on the connector in the camera. A good eye and a good flashlight and you may be able to confirm.

Memory Card Errors with Canon PowerShot S3

There most definitely is a solution to this problem. Follow this link for a step by step fix for the memory card error. It requires taking the camera apart but if the warranty is expired you have nothing to lose. Fix worked fine for me.

Memory card not reading in canon a75

So as not to spoil your vacation, go buy yourself a new compact flash card locally. They should sell them anywhere electronics are sold, including WalMart, etc. See if you can get this new card to work in your camera. If so, then you can work on trying to get your current CF to work, by trying to format it in the camera. If you can't get a new CF to work in the camera, then you likely damaged either the pins in the CF socket in the camera, or some switch that is pushed when the card is inserted (to tell the camera there is a card in it). It is unlikely you will be able to have this fixed during your vacation, unfortunately.
