It sounds that the audio output IC overheats. This may happen if the contact between IC and its heat sink became loose. Check it.

SOURCE: thin black line

Try to replace the YSCAN board. If not fix it, then it's the PDP Panel failure.

SOURCE: 42 inch samsung plasma tv black vertical lines

Hi, Depeending on the thickness of the lines matters. If the lines are Black and about 1-2 inches thick it may be a bad bottom buffer board or a bad panel (screen).
If the lines are thin 1/16 to 1/8 inch it is most likely a bad panel.
You can open up the set and depending on the model, see the thin board/boards running across the bottom with ribbon cables going to the panel. You may be able to attempt reseating the ribbon cables, but be careful as some retainer plugs break very easy.
If the lines are thick black and the reseating doesn't correct it you may be able to buy the coresponding buffer. Unfortunately some bottom buffers are actually part of the panel. If you are not comfortable taking it apart then call a professional but be aware labor charges start around $200 not counting parts, panels start at $600 up to over $1000
hope this helps
Thanks
Eric

I have samsung plasma ps-42d4s but it has fault (sound ok but no display) can you help me? plz reply

Hi
This is most probably down to your Y Sustain board, This is situated on the left hand side of your TV when the back is removed, rectangular in shape about 11" by 5-6" Look for the part number on the board and google for a replacement.
The main cause of this is the module that blows under the big heat sink, this can be replaced but i would not advise if you do not have surgery soldering and de-soldering skills!!

I was watching a program and the screen went black, i still have sound

Try unplugging the TV and leaving it off for a bit. Then try to turn it back on. Has the picture done this before? Have you had any other issues? How old is the TV?

No picture but has sound

The problem can be caused by a bad sustain board (Ysus Zsus) , the popping sound is often caused by a capacitor blowing up.
The TV must be taken apart and tested before eventually replacing sustain boards.

Plasma Burn IN

It's actually similar to the old screen burn in you'd see on very old CRT televisions and monitors. You can play your playstation on it, just make it a point not to leave it on the same screen for long periods. For instance, if you pause the game, turn the TV off until you're ready to continue.

Plasma Burn In only happens if you leave the same image on the screen for an extended period. Just don't do that, and you'll be fine.
