Craftsman impact are ball bearings supposed to float near air escape or is it broke

There are more than one sensor used to deploy the air bag none mounted at the air bag. the switch is a sealed tube with a ball inside ,a magnet to hold the ball at one end and a pair of contacts at the other end. on impact the ball moves forward and closes the contacts. Make sure the battery is removed before playing with air bag switches . It is quite costly if the bag is deployed.

If you are just oiling the gun,hold it upside down and squirt some oil ine the air chuck fitting.(I just use an empty bottle of my wife's hair dye filled with ATF-it's cheaper than a can of "air tool oil".If you are referring to the grease fitting for the impact mechanism,look for a small hole with a captured metal ball.The only tool I found to fill this is a specially designed miniature grease gun(got mine at Sears).

how much oil did you put in? you are only supposed to put a few drops in the air hose coupler.

Make sure you have at least 90 pounds of air and if you do you need to oil the wrench air tool oil pour some in the where the air line hooks up ..air tools need to be oiled daily cause compressed air cause water vapors to build up when you use it and then when it sits it begins to rust a bit and the oil stops this ...

I took it all apart and cleaned it all, reassembled,oiled it and now it is as good as new.

Although I do not have a Craftsman, I have taken severl othe brands apart. They all seem to be much the same. You do not need specialized tool. You just have to be mechanically savey. I think the grease has thickened up too much so taking it apart and cleaning it should do the trick. Start at the working end end and separate the front end. Work on a clean bench where little items (screws, ball bearings etc) won't roll off and get lost. When the two parts are separated, you should see the hammer mechanizm and a lot of grease. remove and clean everything that you can. Re-lube the mechanizm with a light lube grease and re-assemble. Turn the socket drive by hand to make sure everything is free, then apply a liberal application of air tool oil to the air port of the gun and attach an air line and give it a try . Put a load on the socket to check for impact functioning properly. I hope this helps

Use a good grease. Don't pack it, just lube the parts. If it is all together, put in about half an ounce of air tool oil through the plug.

The front crash sensor is on or near the radiator support under the hood, it is a little square box, one question why do you think it has a problem? it is a mechanical device, a steel ball bearing sitting in an inverted cone, when you crash the ball bearing breaks free of the magnet, that breaks a connection and signals the airbag monitor to fire the airbags, it takes a 5+ MPH impact to set all this in motion, there are side impact sensors as well, the physics of these are a little different, they are measured in G force of the impact, hope all this doesn't bore, one note the fuel that fires the air bag is made by the same folks that make rocket fuel for the solid fuel boosters of the space shuttle.

It's nearly impossible unless you have a good air compressor and a powerful 1/2" or larger drive impact gun.The reason is you have to remove the cv axle nut and axle out of the way before removing the bearing and hub.The axle nut requires a couple hundred foot pounds to remove.The procedure is:Jack vehicle safely off the ground,remove wheel and tire.Remove axle retaining nut.Remove balljoint nut and bolt,pry down on lower control arm,and disengage balljoint and lower arm from spindle.Now the axle can be released from the hub,but leave the other end of the axle in the trans,just set off to the side out of the way.At this point,there are two ways to change the bearing.The wheel bearing is a double roller,cartridge type with the hub containg the wheel studs,pressed into the bearing.Remove the entire spindle assembly from the suspension strut,OR leave the spindle attached to the strut,and remove the bearing and hub from the spindle.Some guys swear by taking the spindle to a press,and pressing the bearing assembly out with a bottle jack.I just use a bushing driver set,and ball peen hammer,and remove the hub from the bearing...then remove the snap ring retaing the bearing in the spindle,then drive the bearing out of the spindle with the hammer and drivers.There you have it.Reverse procedure for reassembly
