Cannot open cd-rom drive!

Sounds strange but i own an hp lenovo T60 laptop and suddenly my cd-rom drive has stopped opening when i press the eject button on the side of the laptop. ive tried restarting the laptop a few times. the cd-rom drive does not even show up under my computer! i recently tried to free up a lot of space on the hard drive and now im worried i have deleted an essential cd-rom driver. if so, is there a place i can download another one? could this be a hardware problem, ie. the cd rom drive has died itself? i just assumed that cd-rom drives last for the life of the laptop...
the cd rom drive was working a week or two ago.

any help would be really appreciated :)

The thing about cd/dvd drives in general is that they die and thats the case here even if you deleted anything of the operating system its self would notice that the cd drive was missing the driver and ask you about it since you havent stated that its safe to say that the drive is dead

Lenovo Z570 Disc tray is stuck -outside of laptop

Open the try slightly, shut down the machine, tilt the machine to the side of the DVD/CD drive a gently shake to loosen the tray or whatever is causing the problem, Is the disk off the spindle? Is the dvd/cd broken? Can you insert something to clear whatever is obstructing it? Have you tried to eject using the software, Go to computer, right click DVD/CD rom drive, click on eject? Has there been any damage to that area, bent..etc? You may have to force it open or remove the drive and try to open it.

Thanks for your question.

First you can eject cd from cd rom buy using manual metal pick implement the hole and press. you know that every cd rom has hole. so you can eject cd.

Cd/dvd drive

You can see a hole located on the tray of the cd rom drive. Commonly seen beside the button to eject the cd out. Grab a small pin and push the hole and this should eject the tray. Close the tray again by pressing the button. Eject it using the button. If everything still failed, call up Dell to have the CD Rom Drive replaced.
