Nope, recovery CD is for your PC, not in general, still you can try with Microsoft support.

I need to download windows xp to install on my 2nd computer

You cannot download Windows XP unfortunately. You may be able to purchase a copy on Ebay. You will need your own installation key which should be on a sticker attached to your PC.

Add/Remove Window components

Im not sure which file you are referring to but you could just a repair of the installation
this is fot the master boot record

if there are any other files , settings or programs during the repair process options for these should be available

Insert your Windows XP installation CD or recovery disc, and restart the computer.

Instead of attempting to boot Windows as it normally would, the computer will give you an option to boot from the CD.

Press a key when prompted, then wait for the setup program to load.

Press the "R" key on the "Welcome to Setup" screen.

This will cause the CD to launch the Recovery Console instead of attempting to install Windows XP on your computer.

If you have an administrator password on your copy of XP, then you will need to enter it in order to log in to the Recovery Console.

Choose the installation of Windows XP that you want to repair (generally the only option). Wait for the command prompt to appear, then enter "fixmbr." Press "y" when prompted to let the FixMBR utility overwrite the corrupted bootloader with a new copy.

Remove your XP disc or recovery disc, then type "exit" into the command prompt.

The exit command should cause the computer to reboot, allowing the computer to load the new bootloader file and then continue Windows XP startup as normal.

Hope this helps

I'm trying to reinstall XP on my sisters viewsonic V1250s and I cant get it to load. I have the recovery cd's and an external cd drive. Her roomate put linux on it and jacked it up. I put in a new HDD and...

> check the disk

Check for scratches on the media.

Also, it could be "bad" RAM in the computer that is creating "random" problems, which could be reported by the B.S.O.D.
If the computer has multiple sticks of RAM, remove one, and try again.

Needed to reinstall xp home used my recovery cd but because it's scratched it won't copy certain files now i can't use my computer at all

If someone else has a copy of Windows Xp Home for you to use, you can use their CD with the key provided on the label on your machine. You do not have to use the CD that came with your computer. Just note, you may have to install drivers separately.

HP Compac NX5000 wont load XP Home on new hard drive

This situation leads me to believe that the CD or DVD drive is faulty,,or the install disc you are using is scratched or dirty.
Try cleaning the disc and begin again.
Another option is to take the hard drive out and using a 2.5 to 3.5 inch HD adapter ,,plug into a desktop PC as a slave.
And copy your WinXp cd onto a partition on your laptop HD.
Then using a Win98Se floppy boot disc you can access the winXP and install from there.

New Hard Drive, system recovery problem

The systems disc is for the drivers and utilities, and, yes, there should have been two discs with the machine. The A45 is new enough that it should have come with an XP disc, not 98. I believe there was a mix up and you have the wrong disc. If you can get the operating system to load with the recovery disc you have, then you can get the drivers at the link below. Some two disc sets will not load an operational system unless you have both discs. Since you were running XP before, I don't think you're going to be happy with 98. I'm going to suggest that you purchase an XP disc, or contact Toshiba, and let them know that the wrong disc came with the machine, they might send you the right disc. If you do have to purchase an XP disc, simply load the system, then go to the link bellow and download the drivers. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.

Not opening my laptop

Here's what you need to do to fix it: Find some way to get Partition Table Doctor (http://www.ptdd.com/download.htm) and put it on either a live boot CD or from a secondary hard drive installation. Once you have that, Scan the partition for errors and select fix boot... Then if you're running Vista get a copy of Vista Recovery Disc (http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window... burn yourself a copy of the disc, and run it at the boot of your computer. Once the cd is loaded, click on REPAIR WINDOWS, select COMMAND PROMPT, then use this command: bootrec.exe /fixboot

If that doesn't work use: bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
and see if your windows boots.

IF you have windows XP, boot up with the Windows XP cd, select Repair (R), go into the command prompt (selecting which windows installation you want to modify) and then type this command: fixboot c:

See if your computer boots now.... The important thing is to try to repair your boot which has been deleted or corrupted, that is why it gives the error: err2err3

Try different recovery tools like Table Doctor http://www.ptdd.com/ in conjunction with your recovery cds (windows xp installation CD and Windows Vista Recovery Disc)
