When I try to defrag, a screen appears that says CHKDSK is running and it can't defrag until it is stopped upon reboot. When I reboot and try again the same screen appears. I can't find CHKDSK on the hard drive or anywhere for that matter. Thanks for reading this and helping.
Type cmd into the run box when you type that type chkdsk/f hit enter then type y hit inter again reboot let it run its test that should fix your issue
if that didnt work that means that your hard drive is corrupted
you cant delete the chkdsk its built into the system
Only thing u can advise that you do is you taking all your important items off of this computer and doing a fresh install

Sorry, but the above solution did not work. the cmd chkdsk/f and then y was not recognized and chkdsk did not run after the reboot.
I have Windows XP on the laptop if that makes a difference.
Anyone else have another proposed solution ?
Thanks,

Is there anyway I can remove CHKDSK from the hard drive ?Everything else seems to be working just fine and I am on the laptop with these comments. I went into search to attempt to locate chkdsk and was unsuccessful in locating it to possibly delete.
Thanks for your help,

OK, is there any other "work around" that I can employ to get my laptop defragged?
