Can't get router to work after disconnection.

My D-Link router was disconnected to get floors redone. Now I want to reconnect and can't get it to work properly.
I am not very computer savvy.

All the solutions refer to a modem. I don't have one. When I changed cable carriers for TV. my telephone and internet provider

hooked me up to their cable. The cable is hooked up directly to the

router and they took away their modem.....said I didn't need it. All worked very well until I had to disconnect it. I couldn't get it hooked up correctly because I couldn't remember my network name or whatever so I hooked the cable directly to the TV and used that until I had more time to try and do it correctly. Of course, I had no wireless access to the internet for my laptop. Strange, though, when I turn on the wireless access on the laptop it shows the name of my network and that it has a strong signal but when I try to log on the internet it is unable to complete the connection.

When I called my internet provider they couldn't or wouldn't help me saying that their system does not show that I have I router. They told me when the power was turned off to the router the identity was lost and that I would have to reset it. When I called D-Link they told me to insert the original CD which by the way I no longer have. My son-in-law said I didn't need it anymore. I do have all the info used in the original installation such as "My Network Name (SSID), "My Security Key" and "My Password" but I can't get to that part that may require this info as shown as an example

    on their web page.

I told you I was a computer ignoramus. It's so bloody frustrating I am ready to take an axe to the whole bloody works.

My son-in-law helped me once before but I can't contact him right now.

    HELP!!!!!

Try setting it up as follows, if its not working come back on and let us know.

Plug in the modem power.
Plug in the router power.
Plug in one ethernet cable from the modem to the internet port or WAN port of the router.
If not wireless, plug a second ethernet cable into the "1" port of the router and the other end of that cable to the computers LAN or ethernet port.

Attempt to get on a website.
If this is unsuccessful, restart the modem by unplugging the power cord from the modem, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
Unplug the router, wait for 15 seconds then plug it back in.

Still doesn't work?
On your computer, hit Start>Run>type cmd in the text box and hit enter.
A window will open up with a cursor.
Type ipconfig /release
Hit enter.
Type ipconfig /renew
Hit enter.

Try once again to access a website. If this is unsuccessful, return this site and let us know what steps you have tried.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like you have a "rodem", a router with a built in modem. When it is plugged in and powered up, which lights are on or flashing?

Why does my acer aspire 5315 wifi keep disconnecting and reconnecting?

hello sir.

Reason :-
1.Make sure your acer aspire is in range.
2.cheack is it your wireless disconnecting and reconnecting or is it your internet disconnecting and reconnecting.
3.Are you facing this issue with any other machine or is this the only one.
If this is the only computer in which your wifi connection is dropping then there is issue with wireless connectivity.

solution:-
1.Turn of your router and modem and then check the wireless connectivity.
If issue still persist then:-
2.Create a new network name and wireless security key and then connect to it:- Now check the wireless stability whether is it still disconnecting an reconnecting or is it stable now.

If issue still persist then bright your laptop close to router and then check wifi disconnecting any more or not if not then change the channel to 1 or 11 from your wireless router page.

Let me know if this worked for you or not.
If worked then please rate my solution.

Wont reset and has erratic blinking lights. Tried power reset, reset button, etc.

Does the power light blinks when you press the reset button?
If power light is blinking continuously then I think your router is not working and you need a new one.

My netgear wndr3400 wireless router disconnects about once every hour. I must then manually reconnect to the router. How can this be fixed?

change the channel selection in the wireless settings from auto to a any one of the channels on the drop down list. I actually did it by trial and error until the i found a channel that works. Also if you have the router on the ground floor of a multi floor home the signal range is lousy, move it to the second floor and keep it away from places where they are too many electrical devices close by maintain at least 6feet of distance from televisions and speakers and the range will be excellent

Reconnecting D-Link Router

well if I miss my guess, dsl has to go from the modem to an uplink on the router, cable gets plugged directy, look for a plug on the back called uplink, you can also reset the router to factory by getting a paper clip and inserting it inot the little hole in the front and press in for a few seconds, you shold see it reset by the lights
