Camera shows battery exhausted with new batteries.

I've tried 3 different types of batteries now. Brand new, slightly used with charge, and fully charged re-chargeable batteries. It let's me set the date and time but then the "battery exhausted" symbol shows up. If I click confirm for the date/time, it goes off. If I let it sit and not set the date/time, it goes off. Is it broken or is there a specific type of AA batteries I'm not using.

You should be using Nickel metal Hydride batteries (NiMH). Do not use Nickel Cadmuim(NiCd), Zinc carbon or alkaline.

Why does my fully charged battery show only a 1/4 power and only alow me 3 pictures before it dies?

How old are your batteries, and are they Canon brand or a cheap eBay type off brand? Most times we see this the batteries are old and won't hold a full charge or are cheap off-brand ones.

Has the camera been exposed to intense moisture or fallen into water. Water damage can drain a battery quickly.

There is a software adjustment to set the battery inhibit voltage, but you will have to take your camera to Canon as it is proprietary software only they have

Error signal

You should have two types of batteries.
2 CR123A batteries: (lithium)
4 AA batteries (alkaline or nickel-metal hydride)
Never use Nicad batteries. Never use different batteries together. that is for the four AA batteries. They should be the same brand and the same capacity.
The lithium batteries should be the same brand and same date.
Before changing batteries, always switch off the camera.

When you use rechargeable batteries, be sure you did charge them fully, before putting them in the camera.

If unused for any length of time, rechargeable batteries lose their ability to retain a charge. Try it with a brand new, fully-charged battery. FWIW, I recharge all my camera and flashgun batteries monthly.

Is the camera LENs won't retract? Try to use a brand new different recomended batteries like alkaline batteries or lithium batteries. If your using a rechargable batteries make sure that they are fully charge. You can also try to turn the camera ON without using memory card. Remove the memory card on the camera. Then put a new recomended battery, try to turn it ON if the camera will not turn ON or stay ON call kodak support line. Support in English and Spanish is available at 1-800-235-6325 (23KODAK)

Canon PowerShot A630 power problem: NiMH batteries no longer work

I dont agree, I have tried several different batterie types and the batteries are draining almost instantly with the camera and they are not actually being drained. I think the camera itself is at the end of its life...as I have used rechargeable batteries for the last few years and now they wont even show as being charged on the camera. It stinks Im in your same spot now...no batteries are lasting even the brand new lithium ones...it has nothing to do with the battery "juice" but something with the canon supply power not recognizing/recieving the juice. Im not a canon expert, but I think the problem is more than the battery here Steve and im confused at the solution as well.

Battery exhausted warning

Hello justplainles:

Do the others show the same problem?

Try this: RESET ALL in the menu or setup menu.
If that does not work, make sure that the in the menu (if it is there) you set the battery type to rechargeable not alkaline .
You may try alkaline batteries, if it does the same, the camera may need repair.

Some cameras will not set the battery type automatically.

Batteries

Hi, This might be a case of the defective batteries (though brand new). Most if not all rechargeable batteries including Li-Ion batteries have only so much shelf life. The unit might be new but have been with the dealer for sometime. Probably your best bet would be to bring it back to the dealer and ask for a replacement camera or at least the batteries. Show him the fully charged indicator and how quick it will be gone when you try to take a pic. Of course, you would need your warranty card, proof of purchase and any other documents normally asked for complaints like this, Hope this give you an idea. Good luck and kind regards.

My camera is not starting at all

I had the same problem. Almost brand new. Would turn it on and would last only 2-3 seconds, couldn't even complete one picture. Suddenly, I put in fully charged batteries and now it works! I had tried these before. The only difference was I used the batteries in another device and returned them to recharge. Just last night I decided to try once more and the charged batteries worked. No problems since with power, except now I can't get images to transfer! I did notice one little line in instructions I had never seen than when you change batteries, you have to program the camera with type used.
