Open system properties (my computer --> right click --> properties) go to hardware tab and click device manager. expand the usb controller and see if there are usb printing support, if exist go to control panel --> printer and faxes. right click in your printer icon and select use printer online. if you don't find usb printing support in device manager the problem is with your usb connector. try to change it and make sure the printer power is pugged correctly.

And you connect the printer to computer , you must have a pop up menu on screen the there new hardware connected / paired to your computer.
