I open Windows photo gallery and click on import from camera or scanner, it shows that the printer/scanner is there and its connected, then i click import and it tells me that "failed to initialize selected paper source" I click Ok. Then the new scan dialog box pops up but i cannot scan or change anything!

Yeah, I have almost the same problem... I have an Inspiron 1501, and my X3470 says "Press start to scan", but when I do, nothing happens.
I am having the same problem with my lexmark x3470. I think that I am going to get rid of this printer. Because it won't scan from devices and so far you can only copy, but not print in black only.
