Cannot scan from Lexmark printer onto laptop

I cannot scan anything from my Lexmark 3470 series onto my laptop which has windows vista. I open Windows photo gallery and click on import from camera or scanner, it shows that the printer/scanner is there and its connected, then i click import and it tells me that "failed to initialize selected paper source" I click Ok. Then the new scan dialog box pops up but i cannot scan or change anything!

Yeah, I have almost the same problem... I have an Inspiron 1501, and my X3470 says "Press start to scan", but when I do, nothing happens.

I am having the same problem with my lexmark x3470. I think that I am going to get rid of this printer. Because it won't scan from devices and so far you can only copy, but not print in black only.

As a work around try installing Windows fax and scan and using that program to scan your items - I have multiple printers and it works great for me

Save the file in your My Documents.

My Lexmark x6170 all-in-one Printer will not scan

I have the same printer, Windows Vista, and also only use the device drivers, but do not experience the problem you are having. The only problem I have with it is that scanning using MS Office 2007 times out before the image can completely transfer. So uninstalling your existing drivers and then reinstalling may do the trick.

If you still wish to install the All-In-One Center software, Lexmark will only provide the device drivers, as you have discovered. However, there are reports that the Lexmark X6100 series AIO (All-In-One) is identical to the Dell A960 AIO. And, fortunately, Dell is kind enough to provide the similar All-In-One Center software.

Click here for the 32-bit Windows XP version. (just in case)
Click here for the 32-bit Windows Vista version.

Give it a try and please report back as to whether or not it worked for you.
