Put the disk labeled Windows XP in the cd drive and restart the unit.

At the first screen you select install Win XP.

accept the agreement by hitting F8 key. Then press enter to start the process.

You might just be better off t restoring to an earlier date , if your windows version has that available.

You first need to ensure that the you have the drivers on the cd's or check if they are avaible on dell's website..

Then you will need a Windows XP CD.. Just put the windows xp formatting cd in cd-drive and restart computer...
When it should say "press any key to continue." (or similar) just press a random key on the keyboard..
(If it doesnt say "press any key to continue", right when you turn on computer press F2 and make CD/DVD Drive the first on the Boot list.. Then save settings..)
Wait for the blue screen to finish loading..
Delete the partition and install windows on the unformat space..
Format it as NFTS (select quick if u are in a hurry, but i doesnt recommend doing so..
Then just follow the instructions on the screen until finishing installing windows..
If your sound, wireless and stuff like that doesnt work after formatting insert the drivers cd i mentioned in the beginning and install its contents..

I am trying to install a new hard drive to my insprion 1501 laptop & don't know how to do it...

Ascertain that the hard disk is an external or internal device usually specified on the manufacrturers manual or as logos indicated on device. An external disk device usuallly is plug and play enabled. Extesion cables allows to connect from device to the computer from which would derive functionality soon after processis achieved. The computer is capable of performing on dual drives only with the dafualt and external as substitues. For example, a broken computer default disk is capable of acquiring connectivity with an external disk. However, a broken internal disk is unable to perform without replacing the broken once with another internal disk. Alternately, an internal device would require extracting the computer default disk for the new replacement to take effect

I had new dell inspiron 1501 laptop with windows 7 os instaled in 350gb singel drive and i want to saparet two or more parteshens with out OS loss

if your hard disk is only 1 partition right now, reformatting the hard disk, then deleting the current partition and creating additional partitions is the way to do it. This means, you also have to reinstall Windows. if you do not want to reinstall Windows, look for programs like partition magic or the like that can allow you to create additional partitions, though, there are cases this may have issues later.

I have a dell insprion 1501 and have forgot the password :(

A tech center will usually crack the case - and remove the battery on the motherboard - That automatically resets the bios completely on both laptops and desktops - As far as that tag - - I have never heard of such a practice.

Selling comp

If you have the recovery cds then put in the first one and it should start the recover process, this will make it look like new. Some laptops have a recovery partition instead and will ask you to press a key when it turns on to recover the laptop.

Run dell error

Since this is such an old machine I would imagine there are a lot of unnecessary programs running in the background and starting with windows. I would say the quickest solution would be to back up any data you want to keep and then reformat and reinstall. If you do not wish to do that there are some other steps you can take. First go into the control panel and then add/remove programs. Go through the list and uninstall everything you don't need/want. Secondly, click start then click run and type in "msconfig" without the quotation marks. Click on the start up tab and uncheck everything you don't need to have starting with windows. I would also run your spyware/adware scanners and run your anti-virus. Lastly, I would defrag your hard drive.
