I have a fairly new Acer Aspire, bought in Dec. 2008. Its operating system is Windows XP. I had the software for Verizon wireless put on the machine and was using it but could not see or use typical wireless networks. Yesterday, I was at my university's Help Desk and asked them to help me access the university secure wireless network. They did and I was able to access the secure wireless network. I went home and used another unsecured wireless network that was available last night. Today, I came in at tried to use the computer at a meeting.
The computer started but said that Windows did not start successfully and that software or hardware changes may have caused this. It then gave me several choices about starting ....normal mode, safe mode, last good configuration... etc.
Regardless of what I chose or how many times that I tried, the computer would, at best, show the Windows screen and then shut down almost immediately without, I think, actually launching Windows.
I brought it back to the Help Desk and they could not figure out the problem. The person said he thought it might be a hardware problem.
However, I wonder if it is ''just a coincidene'' that the other changes were made just yesterday. mmmmmmm. What do you suggest to fix this problem? Thank you.

Thanks...but I do have some new anti virus software. Kerpensky....or something like that. It is Russian I think.
Anyway, I was searching on line and found a Acer eRocovery Management manual online. The first page said to press
ALT and F10 (same time) while Windows was on screen. Also I saw was the Windows screen, no more. I did it and held it down for what seemed like a long time (a minute or two) and then....voila....
my desktop came up. It seems like a miracle.
Thanks for trying. Maybe this find will help someone else.
