I have unplugged the power cord from TV and wall and still nothing .. The only response I get is the red light turns off when unplugged

It cannot be done--sets for over 40 years have had latch or shutdown circuits for a simple reason--self protection when a short happens so half the set does not get destroyed in an instant.
Shutdown means you have a problem and if you read the owner manual for your set the light/s on front may be blinking an error code.
some simple advice--post a question here with brand,model number and a simple description: No sound or Brightness power light...... and someone will give you at least a general answer. Put the model number in the body of the text as a lot of the time the one at the top of page is wrong....
