Cleaning the Print Head If you find that the printout is unexpectedly faint or some dots are missing, you may be able to solve these problems by cleaning the print head, which ensures that the nozzles are delivering ink properly. You can clean the print head from your computer using the Head Cleaning utility in the printer software or from this product itself by using the control panel buttonCleaning head and nozzles - r_note.gifbr>Note: Refer to the appropriate section below to use the Head Cleaning utility. If the lines are horizontal (across the page) it is quite possible that your refilled carts are at fault. I would suggest you try the underhead cleaning method as described in my previous post - http://www.fixya.com/support/t138226-printer_not_printing If this has little effect I would suggest you bin the refilled carts and get a full set of genuine ones to put in. The refill process can easily introduce air into the sponge which retains it and causes the ink to foam. This is then dragged down into the print head and and causes problems with print quality. If you still have issues after the underhead cleaning and new carts have been installed, get in touch with The Service Manual Shop and get the Epson software they have which allows you to make lots of adjustments to the printer. You should try running the alignment routines to check the Bi-Di printing is inline.

Sometimes there is a coating on the chips (even original epson ones!) - Old wives tales say dont touch the chips with your fingers - but take the carts out one by one and wipe your finger over the chips (1 finger for one chip - dont reuse the same finger on a different chip)
Reinstall them and that worked for me on a dx4500 with original epson carts in

my epson rx580 was also printing too red. tried the nozzle cleaning, etc. several times. didn't work. i used paper towels and dabbed underneath the ink cartridges (removed) with the help of chopsticks. then i took q tips to get the corners and other areas that glistened with wet ink.
replacing the current cartridges didn't help, so i changed all the cartridges (i use generic, so it wasn't too much of a sacrifice and the old cartridges were almost empty). and voila! the colors were all working again. so that seemed to work for me.

Don't use nozzles clean function, besides ink consuming it can cause damages that cannot be fixed: black lines on the back side of the page that will be permanent. Instead put two photo paper together (2x260 gr) and push the two papers together into the printer while printing a motive including many colors. Do so a couple of times and the clogg usually disappears. Good luck! jonk
