Inverter won't charge

Hi everyone.I have a Xantrex freedom 20 inverter charger.My problem is that the inverter works but it won't charge my batteries.The batteries read 12.5 volts so low batteries must not be the prob.Any help would be great!!! Kelly

My charger will not work either. Inverter works fine. Charger will not start when shore power is hooked up. I tried to disconnect it to reboot it but same problem exists. HELP!

The problem is the batteries. 1) Check the age of them to assure they are not near warranty limit. If so change them. 2) They must be topped off. I recommend using distilled water within every 30-60 days. Summary: After doing item 2 above charge them with an external charger; while connected to inverter is ok. Does this help?

Check if the inverter has a fuse for the charger, if it does test it if it is still ok if not change it

Xantrex 458 freedom....has stopped charging house batteries off of engine alternator. Alternator is showing that it works (dash gauge). It does charge while on shore power or generator....but not charging...

Fis\rst of all is the inverter supplying 120 VAC? when turned on?. If so the inverter seems to be working.I think your problem is in the truck alternator/charging system. The inverter is independent of this charger..

If my battery is discharged -flat- the charger won't charge when I run it on my Honda 2000 watt generator. Partially discharged batteries charge just fine. Is there a voltage cutoff for my charger ?

there is always a voltage cutoff for all inverter, but it does not stop it from charging when the batery is low,accept the battery is bad

Xantrex Freedom 458 Combi inverter/charger 2000 watt

OK my 2000 Discovery does the same thing. Try and hit the inverter charger with your fist 3-4 times, then listen and see if the charger fan starts up. I will be bringing my inverter to Portland this week to have the tech look at it. The other thing is it could be the transfer switch. Will let you know.
