How to remove relay board from KitchenAid KHMS2050SSS microwave

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2013

Figured it out - have to take the microwave down from the wall and remove the case; board is mounted on the back right wall of the unit. Slightly easier if you remove the bottom of the unit before taking it off the wall (includes the vent fan blower, etc) which makes it just a little lighter to move.

Keypad on microwave control keeps freezing ...then hours later goes to random screen. What could the problem be and what part do I need to order on kitchenaide model KHMS2050SSS-1 microwave.

OMG NOT KITCHENAID!!!!! Problem is going to be with main control board. The Big Problems is 2 things actually 1 its Kitchenaid. It is going to be expensive to repair. and 2, trying to find a company that actually has the part. If you have the book that came with the unit, see if it has a phone number for warranty service for the unit. It may not be under warranty, but they will be the only ones who will have reasonable access to parts for it. I tell people NO when they call me and say they have a kitchenaid. Just too damn difficult to deal with. GOOD LUCK!!

My microwave seems to have a mind of its own it keeps wanting me to reset date and keeps beeping for no reason at random times

Most likely it's an electronic failure of the main circuit board. Although extremely unlikely, I have seen an oven or two that have had these symptoms that were caused by an insect walking on the back of the circuit board.

Kitchen aid micro wave change fuse

Unplug, remove top, look under keypad, follow wires to circuit board, look for a silver rectangular capacitor, "may be under a plastic flap" discharge capacitor with a screwdriver across the 2 points, look for a small fuse near by in clips, remove and replace with same current rating, assemble before test because lethal voltages present when powered.

Everything works on my KitchenAid KHMS2050SSS except the 2 lights underneath for the range...I replaced them and still nothing...thoughts?

That model should be KHMS2050SS0, KHMS2050SS1, or KHMS2050SS2, I think.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site.

Microwave starts and stops in 2 second intervals

The microwave sounds like it has keypad control problem, behind the pad is the micro-controller board which controls vital areas of the oven, it needs to be checked out.

Works for approx 30 secs then it cuts off with a error Code F7 message.

Assuming yours is a model KHMS2050SSS0, here is what the technical sheet says about the F7 error code:

1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
2. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.
3. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
4. Check cooling fan operation
5. Check the magnetron.
6. Check P65 connection on the relay control board.
7. Check the P56/P66 connection between relay board and relay control board.
8. Check wiring to the 1200W inverter and control system. See “Checking Inverters.”
9. Check operation of all interlock switches.
10. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
11. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
12. Check voltage at 4903-1 on relay board. If it is 120, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
13. Replace inverter.
14. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
15. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
16. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
17. Replace relay control board.
18. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
19. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
20. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
21. Check for reversed plug connection on controls or loose wiring.
22. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
23. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

(This troubleshooting guide presumes one does not know how to test electronic components. That's why they say to replace and part and check it again.)

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.
