Sony viaio operating system not found

Black screen is displaying operating system not found. Is there anyway to get the computer working again without loosing any data.

Remove the HDD and test. It sounds like your HDD is gone. Can you get to the Boot Menu? Do a System Restore? Is the HDD LED blinking at boot? Will it boot to safe mode? Your data may be in jeopardy.

    the only thing i can do is press f12 and then it says media test failure

    Remove and reseat the primary HDD, if that dosen't help, Remove the HDD and test replace if necessary. Does your DVD/CD rom drive work? If you insert a repair disk, does it load? Can you get to BIOS setup at POST, by tapping the setup F key? Take a look at thishttp://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/viewC...

Operating system not found
hi goodner,

getting the error "operating system not found" means that the hard drive where the Operating System is installed (i.e. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), Cannot be found by you BIOS upon the boot sequence.

When you turn the PC/Laptop, you normal see a screen that flashes flashes with screen that displays the ff:

Primary Master:
Primary Slave:
Secondary Master:
Secondary Slave:

The Primary master should have a value right next to it. If not, either the hard drive is faulty and needs replacement, cable is loose,

If you have a value to it and stil gets the same error the operating is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

this problem come from your har drive
your hard drive not recognized by motherboard
to solve, open your computer, disconnect hard drive cable then connect again
then turn on your computer
this problem usually found on computer with sata hard drive

Hi,
Press Info/ Display button on tv remote once, on-screen display will disappear.
Only Sony tv remote will work for that, no other universal remote will close on-screen display.

I just bought a sony VIAIO today and dont knoiw hoiw to shut it down
1. Normal shutdown: select Start - Shut Down - Shut Down

2. System hangs: select Alt-Ctrl-Del and then Shutdown

3. If #2 doesn't work - hold the power button until the screen is dark

Still not working
try hooking up an external display and restore the settings , if that don't work you will need the operating disk to reinstall system files and you won't lose any data and the display settings will be restored
