I recently got a new Sony Bravia TV and Yamaha HTR-6130 AV Receiver, and tried to connect the two devices to my XBox 360 the way I understand that I'm suppose to when using HDMI cables, but I get no sound out of my speakers hooked up to my Receiver. I know the speakers work as I have tested them by connecting a basic mp3 player to the reciever and it has worked.
The connection path that I am using for this set up is as follows:
XBox 360 to Reciever's HDMI input (the input is labeled DVD)
From the Reciever's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI input 1
Setting the TV to input one and the reciever to DVD, the XBox image shows up perfectly on the TV. The TV has an option under the sound settings called Speakers. It offers me two choices of TV Speakers or Audio Speakers. When I have the setting set to TV Speakers I hear sound fine... but only out the TV. When I have the setting set to Audio Speakers, I get no sound at all.
I've looked through the settings on the Reciever and I can not find any setting that is telling the sound to go to the TV instead of the connected speakers. But perhaps I'm just blind.
Also I have a simular problem when connecting my computer to the Reciever with an HDMI cable. With my computer I find the following options and results under audio devices
Speakers (Icon that looks like a little computer speaker) -> Sounds come out my computer
RealTEK Digital Output (Icon that looks like my reciever) -> Sounds don't come out anywhere
RealTEK HDMI Output (Icon that looks like my TV) -> Sounds come out the TV
Anyways, to me it seems like a setting on the Reciever that I need to change somewhere, but for the life of me I can't figure out what setting that would be.
I recently got the same receiver and had the same problem. Here's what I was told - and it worked for me:
Even though HDMI cables carry audio and video, for whatever reason this reciever won't accept audio through hdmi. Apparently only much more expensive recievers carry audio through hdmi. What you have to do is run optical audio cables from your xbox, cable box, dvd player or other video device to the optical inputs on the back of the reciver. Then you customize the scene buttons to match your video and audio inputs.
You can get these optical cables pretty cheap on line or even at target. Don't get ripped off by Best Buy for these cables. I love best buy, but they rip off on cables!
This receiver is great - once I got it all figured out and running right I've loved it! Hope everything works out for you!

All you is connect the to audio jacks (red,white or black) to the receiver input or aux port then switch the receiver to aux or line in

One possible reason would be a damaged ground in the cable (check with a DVD/CD player or any other device if possible to see if static persists.) if it is not the cable, then try plugging the laptop into the same power outlet as the Yamaha receiver and see if static persists. if static no longer persists, the problem is a discrepancy in the grounding on either end causing static in the signal and you can either buy a filter at most electronic stores. or you can just continue to use that power outlet if it is not an inconvenience. if it IS the cable, well, replacing it should be fine.

Does the receiver have a switch that allows you to turn off all the speakers?
If so,turn them off and see if the problem stays.
If it still kicks off then , one of the power amp outputs has failed and it will require some fixing
Do a code search from comcast. If you have the Comcast manual it shows you how to search for codes manually, it can take 15 to 20 minutes for you to do it, however, it should fid your code. The only drawback is that you can only control the volume and power, you won't have input or soundfield control. Hope this helps
