I was riding yesterday and when I stopped I put in reverse to back up... And noticed that the bike was trying to go into reverse ( gears kinda grinding) without actually pushing the start button...didn't think to much about it but the next time I went to start it wouldn't start i...it would just click once each time I hit start button ...battery is new...and I have pushed started twice ...runs fine after push started ,...even reverse works ...but after I shut off no start just click...any ideas ?
Sounds like starter is not fully disengaged
Ate all bolts tightened on Starter?
I have a 2003 Honda Goldwing 1800. I just replaced the battery and the silinoids. When I try to start the bike it just clicks. I think I need to replace the starter. I hear its hard to get to the third bolt and location. What do I have to remove off of the bike to get to the starter?
You may have blown the starter solenoid or even worst the starter motor
i cannot diagnose without seeing the bike properly
i strongly suggest you put in a workshop and get it diagnosed properly

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

while trying to start an engine, and only the solenoid clicks, there are these 3 things- no juice from the battery, starter corroded contacts(the big cables) or starter is shot. so first make sure the battery is charged, next make sure the cable mounts from battery to starter are clean(no rust), if that is all good and doesnt start , remove starter and have it tested.

the click implys the gear indicator and kickstand swithch may be working, and just a coincidence. try a test light connected to the starter when the problem occurs. if it lights, the brushes in the starter are probably stuck / worn. if not, the problem may be the start relay, or loose cable to battery, etc,

Sounds like a broken fuse - or a bad electrical connection at the fuse. Try removing the fuse and carefully clean any corrosion from it and the mounting hardware. Do the same with the battery connections.

If you jump the solenoid and it doesn't turn over, it is probably a bad starter. But don't forget to make sure the neutral light is on and the kickstand switch is good.
