Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements stops working

I brought my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop a couple of months ago and I have a really annoying problem where a window pops up saying 'Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements have stopped working'. It didnt used to happen that often but it happens regularly now (like every time I use my laptop). I lose my scrolling function on the touchpad and the scroll button below the toupad stops working. The 'play'/ 'stop'/ 'rewind'/ forward' touch-buttons stop working too. Everything works fine when I reboot but I'd prefer using another way to fix my problem-so if anyone has any suggestions, please help! I get the same message, on mine occasionaly and the scroll edges stop working.  I have read that it is somehow linked to windows live messenger.

I had this problem on my Dell Inspiron 1318, so I went on to their support centre and through the Chat to a technical advisor tool, they uninstalled and reinstalled the driver which controls the touchpad and now the problem is completely gone. I suggest you contact Acer or the customer service of the company that you bought your laptop from and ask them to do something similar. I didn't even need to send my laptop back, Dell were able to take control of my laptop remotely and it only took about an hour in total. Hopefully your provider will be able to offer a similar service.

You may even be able to do this yourself if you can figure out which touchpad driver you need and look on the Acer/laptop maker website support and look at updates for drivers or downloads or something similar. Personally I found using the company's expertise much easier.

SOURCE: Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements stops working

Hi!
I resently had the same problem on my HP laptop and search Google for possible solutions. No solution works until I tried Windovs Update and then got 5 alternatives - Synaptics PS/2 port TouchPad was one of them. I update and restart and finally solve this problem.

Good Morning: I have an Acer Aspire 5920

Hello,

As by your description, the FN F7 key combo did not solve the problem. Please restart the machine , press F8 then select from the list "Safe mode" then press enter. Then see how the Touch pad reacts in Safe mode. If it works perfectly in safe mode, we can assume you have a software problem that is preventing it from working in normal windows mode.

Please download and install the latest BIOS for your machine. The E525 has a issue where the TP just stops working, upgrading the BIOS solves the issue on the E525...

Touch pad stopped working

I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall touchpad drivers to isolate the issue.
Press Windows key and R. Type devmgmt.msc in Run window and click on OK. Click on "+" sign beside Mice and other pointing devices in Device Manager.
Right click on Touchpad and select Uninstall.
You will be prompted to restart the computer.
Windows detects touchpad and the touchpad drivers will be reinstalled automatically.
You can also install touchpad drivers from your notebook support website.
You can reinstall the drivers from the below links:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html
http://www.laptops-drivers.com/acer-notebooks/download-drivers-acer-aspire-5920-notebooks.html
However I suggest you to install the drivers by visiting the acer support website.
Also perform windows update.
