This means your hard drive is bad or about to go bad and needs to be replaced. If you can still access the drive, immediately back up anything important to you. You will then need to replace the hard drive. Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution with a fixya rating, even if the news isn't what you wanted to hear. Thanks! :c)

SOURCE: smart says hard driveabout to crash

Copy any important files now to another computer or DVD/CD or USB drive. The drive may fail soon. If you buy a new drive, some come with software which will allow you to copy one drive to another. You can buy a USB interface to have the new drive connected to the laptop and then run the software. HTH

Need to factory reset hp laptop HP pavillion touch smart 15 notebook?

Do you have a start up disc that come with the device? If not you would have to obtain whatever OS you have on a disc. then you can do a re-installation and use the key that should be on the bottom of your laptop. If you don't have a key then you may have to purchase one. My shop would charge between 50 and 150 dollars to repair your machine.

My pavillion dv6700 starts up then goes black

Hi, Sorry to hear about this. I presume you can't log in in "Safe mode" (pressing the key "F8" while booting) and then to a system restore (available under Accessories -> System tools -> System restore) Nor you have the Windows Recovery Console available to you , nor an original Microsoft Windows CD/DVD (not a HP one) to use to try to do a soft recovery. If I'm correct on the points above, then sadly at this stage it seems you have a fundamental issue with your machine. I recommend that you take out the recovery disks you got with your machine. Inserting the main recovery disk and then rebooting the PC will launch a recovery console by HP. This will make a last attempt to fix your PC or, if all fails, return your PC to the "brand new state". Bare in mind that going to the full restore option will delete ALL the files currently your PC.. hence leaving it, just as the day your bough it. If you don;t have a back up of all your files, you'll need either: Create a boot disk that allows you to connect an external hard drive to copy all your data or ask a local mate or PC shop to extract your drive and copy teh data before you do a full recovery.
Once again, sorry to hear about your issue but I'm sure worst case, you'll succeed at getting your machine working again (even if it means a factory reset).

HP Pavillion DV6700 - the screen is black the whole time

try to log in safe mode then run system restore on your last good restor point. check if you see software distribution pack in every restore point then restore it on the date before you had the software distribution pack.
