How do you get to the receptacle contacts to replace them?

Need to replace the receptacle contacts on my electric cooktop.
Cartridge terminals have carbon on them.
Parts Store indicated that the receptacle contacts may need to be replaced. I have already replaced the infinite switch, however the element is not heating. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

SOURCE: jenn air jed 8430 electric cooktop control switch for rear burner

The cook top is attached to the wood frame by brackets, just remove the screws and the electric connection, make sure the power is off from the main box, it's a 220 volt wiring and then just lift the top off. to remove the glass, look around the edges and you should see some small screws, just remove them and the glass should lift off.

the glass top replacemnt is a pretty straightfoward task, a matter of unscrewing one and repalcing it wiht anew one. after ordering new top its a matter of lookin g at eh new top to see which screws would need to be removed from old. hardest part about job will be youll need to do disconnect the downdraft from the venting ,and pull unit up from the counter inwhich it is installe.< not difficult but cumbersome and awkward to manuver. check abd verify full model and serail number and cal manufacture for correct part umber. may cast anywhere fom 200-400 dollars depending on model

Try your local dealer. The tops can be expensive. I have seen them start at around $300.00. Check your warranty and maybe you can get it done under that. They would put like 5 years on those tops. May have to tell them that it broke when you where cooking, blame the product, not you.

SOURCE: I need instructions for wiring in replacing a dual burner switch

We followed the instructions that came with the switch that addressed a "compound wiring" configuration. We also used the black jumper wire as shown in the instructions.
We got to this solution in a trial by error manner though, because the three of us working the problem were convinced the stovetop was wired in a "piggyback configuration" and tried that road first. It would have been helpful if the instructions had included an explanation of the switch manufacturer's interpretation of "compound" and "piggyback" configuration.

My electric Bosh cooktop is humming when the element heats up. Is this normal?

If the noise is emitting from the element the most likely cause is a bad connection where the element plugs into the receptacle. You are likely hearing the voltage/current sparking/arcing between the terminals of the heating element and the prongs inside the element receptacle. When this happen it will require replacing the receptacle and the element because it will burn off the contact points of where the two touches to make the connection. If you just replace the element and not the receptacle too, it can cause the terminals on the new element to burn out. Perhaps get a qualified person to have a look at it - it just may need a service...

We have a JennAire model CP220W-C01 cooktop. We use the old coil type heating elements. There was a flash and smoke from the right front element. A repairperson replaced the connector, only to have it blow...

Unplug the element from the receptacle and then disconnect the receptacle from the point where it plugs into the stove. Now, carefully, turn on power to this heating element. If nothing happens then you have removed the likelihood of a problem in the large portion of the stove's wiring. Next, plug the receptacle cable back into the stove without connecting the heating element. Again, carefully turn on the power to the heating element in question. If there is no spark then the cable, connector and receptacle are ok. If it does spark, replace the receptacle and cable assembly. No spark, then inspect the heating element where it connects to the receptacle. Look for melting or signs of damaged insulation that would allow for a "dead short". If you see damage to the element then replace the element. No damage, clean the connections with a toothbrush, and plug the element back in and turn on the juice. If it sparks again, replace the element. Good luck and be careful. Don't attempt any of this if you are inexperienced in working with electricity. 220 Volts can cause death or serious injury... just the flash from an arc can cause blindness and burns.

Hello there
I will answer this in 2 sections for testing the burners and the thermostate
Surface Burner Testing:

In order to test the surface burner on your electric range, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Before repairs or testing can begin you must disconnect the electricity at the fuse panel, at the circuit breaker panel, or by pulling the plug. Make sure the power is off before proceeding. A jolt from 220 volts can be fatal, use caution!

  2. Remove the surface burner from the stovetop. On most electric ranges this can be done by pulling the burner up and out of its plug-in receptacle. Other models have the burner directly wired to the cooktop. To remove this type of burner, undo the screw that secures the burner to the cooktop, remove the clips that secure the insulators to the burner terminals, and carefully unscrew the wires from the terminals. Take care not to bend these terminals.

  3. Visually inspect the burner - often there will be small holes or bubbles on the surface of a defective element.

  4. Now that you have removed the burner, you can test it using your VOM. Using the ohmmeter function, set the range scale to R x 1 and touch the test leads to the two burner terminals. The VOM should show continuity. Typical burner readings should be somewhere between 19 and 115 ohms, depending on the range manufacturer. If there is no continuity, the burner is defective. To test for a grounded (or shorted) burner, place one test lead on the outside surface of the burner and the other test lead on each burner terminal in turn. If there is continuity at either terminal, the burner is defective.

  5. If the burner is defective, replace with a new one by reversing the removal procedure (step 2 above). If replacing a wired-in burner, make sure that you install the wires on the correct terminals, according to the wiring diagram

Oven Thermostat Testing:

An oven thermostat is a switch that opens and closes in response to the temperature it senses. It is typically found in the control panel, where a liquid-filled temperature-sensing bulb senses and maintains the internal oven temperature by cycling heat on and off.

  1. Before repairs or testing can begin you must disconnect the electricity at the fuse panel, at the circuit breaker panel, or by pulling the plug. Make sure the power is off before proceeding. A jolt from 220 volts can be fatal, use caution!

  2. Access the oven thermostat, which is located in different places depending on the make and model:
    1. On freestanding ranges, access the thermostat by removing the screws that hold the back panel in place at both ends.
    2. On models with front-loading controls, remove the panel and tilt it for access. Be careful not to let the wires disconnect from their components.
    3. Some built-in models have a removable backsplash. Lift the backsplash, rest it on the cook top and remove the screws from the backsplash, which holds the rear panel.
    4. On wall ovens or eye-level ranges, access the control panel by opening the door and removing the screws that secure it. The screws may be under the exhaust hood or below the control panel. If the control panel is hinged, simply tilt it towards you.
    5. On some models both the rear and front control panels must be removed. The screws may be found on the trim and occasionally the trim must be removed.

  3. When testing the thermostat switch contacts for continuity, refer to the wiring diagram and remove only those wires being tested - and only one pair at a time. Test switch contact terminals as per your wiring diagram. If the switch lacks continuity at any of the contact terminal points then the entire thermostat switch needs to be replaced.

    Adjusting the thermostat:

  4. Test the oven temperature by placing the tester in the oven's center and leaving it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Record the minimum and maximum temperatures of three cycles, then add those figures together, divide the result by six and you have the oven's average temperature.

  5. If the average temperature is more than 25 degrees off, try calibrating the thermostat by following your appliance manual instructions for thermostat calibration.

Large burner not operating

do a continuity test on the burner itself if you have continuity in the burner then you would check for power at the receptacle to assure that you have power at the receptacle please remember to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation and if i can answer any futher questions message me back thanks again

We have a smooth electric cooktop and the burner that has the option of being large or small only lights up small. What part do we need to fix this?

first check the wiring to the burner itself you might have a burnt connection to the larger one or a bad receptacle if both are good then you would have to buy a new burner try allbrands appliance parts they seem to be cheaper

Tripping breaker

Replace the burner and receptacle and you should be short free. You may also need to replace the surface element switch too if it doesn't come on at all or stays on high regardless off knob setting.
