IPod Nano 4thGen won't charge on Emerson iP100

I tried to charge my iPod Nano (8GB, if that info is necessary) on the Emerson iP100 docking station, but instead the screen on it said "Charging is not supported with this accessory." I'm using the proper dock that came with the iPod and am certain I put it in properly.

Is it the radio not supporting the iPod, or vice versa? Is there a way I can fix this?

Ipod of the 4th gen. only charges in USB mode and not in Fire wire mode(ilink1394).
models of 3th gen don't have this problem.

Apple changed the new iPod so that they ONLY charge (or even sometimes even work) with Apple licensed accessories. You now will have to buy a new unit if you want to charge that new iPod. :(

For me this is a real poor move on Apple's part as it may turn off past buyers from getting a new iPod

I cant get any sound when i plug in the 8GB iTouch

Chances are it's the docking module... try pulling the ipod forward and see if you get some sound.

One can slip something in behind the ipod to prop it so it will give sound sometimes but overtime the problem gets worse in my experience.

There's the Auxillary input as well in the back... i.e. running an adapter from the headphone jack to the back. For an Ipod Classic one can leave it in the docking station re-charging - for the nano, with the headphone jack on the bottom it can't be placed in the docking station (though can be - recharged when not plugged in)

Don't forget to switch the selection to Auxiliary rather than Ipod

That being said, in terms of sound quality, the quality is much better (highs are higher) when plugged into the docking station compared to the Auxiliary input

Ipod adapter clear

Sorry, it 'WILL NOT' charge a 4G Nano on this Dock no matter which adapter you use!!

Clear Adapters have small numbers on them which relate to different iPods - A reference sheet relating to these numbers is enclosed with the Adapter Pack!

Docking station

Hi!

I would suggest that you by-pass any docking stations and connect it directly via usb charger as most ipods do. And also, try to update Itunes and your Ipod Nano software.

Thanks and good luck! =)

Ipod reads: charging not supported

Until recently, iPods could charge by either USB or Firewire. Each has a different power requirement. Many third-party docks and chargers power the dock connect with electricity that meets the Firewire spec, not the USB one. The newer iPods and the iPhone only can charge by USB. Thus if you use a firewire based charger, you get the "not supported" note. I thinkthat's what is happening to you.

Ipod nano not charging on docking system, it has low battery if none, can play with a little charge on ipod but has to be charged with plug first, the docking system is brand new aswell and is charging...

for some **** reason the new ipod nano (4th generation) does not support FireWire and therefore will not charge on any docking station that is a FireWire power sorce - which seems to be most of them out there!
have same problem so will end up charging from computer as docking station still plays the new nano, no point in buying new docking station just for sake of charging!
