More then likely you have a clogged drain. This is a pain to get to, like most bottom freezer models. You will have to remove everything out of the freezer, remove the door and racks to access the rear freezer panel. Once you get there remove it. You will probably see solid ice forming below the evaporator coil. This is ice from the unit going into a defrost cycle like it should. That is not a problem. The problem is when the ice melts and turns to water it is suppose to drain threw a hole located right below the evaporator in the center. If you have a sheet of ice formed you will need to defrost it to get to the drain hole. You can use hot water. In the industry we de-ice the drain with hot water and then blow it out with a CO2 tank(compressed air tank). This is not my favorite job because it is messy and sometimes long. That ice does not melt fast. Any questions for me go to refrigerator repair and email me anytime.

Marc of Nc. check to make sure the fan in the freezer is operating when the compressor is on. The only thing the fresh food section gets its cool air from is the freezer. and if the fan is not operating no cold air will get up there. If the fan is running you need to make sure the air duct is not blocked with frost of the evaporator is not iced up. Check that out and get back with me if there still is a problem. Good Luck

SOURCE: Bottom of Maytag Freezer Ices Up

I just had the Maytag repair man out and he wanted to replace to parts after defrosting the freezer. Over $300. He did not have the parts with him. Soooo... I am now in the process of using a hair dryer, even tough it is 107 here today. Ice was totally covering the coils under the back panel in the freezer. Easy to take out. Just remove the shelves and you will see it. If you don't totally get all the ice out it will build up even faster. He claims this will give us 2 weeks or so while the parts on on order. I now have all the ice I can see removed, I just hope it is out of the tube above the coils. I have all my food, lots of good steaks, I want to put back in the freezer. The original problem seemed to be the refrigerator was not working but the freezer seemed to be. Well, it just faked me out because it was just a fan or ?? I heard in the freezer. Wish me luck...MJ

Your defrost drain tube is clogged up. Remove the ice and look for the top of a drain tube about 3/8-1/2" in diameter. Once the ice is gone, use a meat baster (turkey baster) full off hot water stuck in the top of the drain tube and blast hot water through to clean it out. Do this several times with about 4 cups of hot water so you don't over flow the drain pan and flood the floor

Why does ice keep forming in the bottom of the refrigerator

If you are referring to ice forming on the floor of the freezer, it's a result of a blocked defrost drain. Contact Maytag to send out an authorized service company to make repairs. There is a drain kit that is installed at no cost to you.

Ice on bottom of the freezer

Your drain is blocked causing the ice in the bottom of the freezer.
The drain is located about 7 inches up from the bottom rear of the freezer.
Just below the back freezer panel.
Turn the fridge OFF.
Remove the bottom bins.
Take a hair dryer and thaw the ice in the drain.
Pour 1/4 cup of bleach in the drain line.
Problem solved.
