Maytag stackable dryer

I would think you are on the right track, possibly a belt, I would also check all the rollers or idlers while you are replacing the belt.

There are three possible reasons why the drum doesn't turn.

1. Broken belt. You replaced the so in this case it's not.
2. Door switch. The dryer will not operate if teh door switch is defective. It is inside the drier main housing near the door frame. You need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Replace if defective.
3. Motor. If the motor hums when the start button is pressed, the motor maybe burned-out. Check the dryer motor:

• Check the blower fan housing for obstruction and manually turn the motor shaft.
• If the motor is very stiff or cannot be turned manually, you need to replace the motor.
  
• If the motor rotate freely, run the motor without the belt. If it runs fine, there maybe problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum.
• Rotate the drum by hand. If it is difficult to rotate it, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley. Reassemble the dryer and try it again.
• If the motor hums but does not run on it's own even without the belt,but can be turned freely by hand, you need to replace the motor start capacitor or the motor itself.

These machines have a metal ball (like a small trailer hitch ball) mounted on the rear of the drum that rides in a plastic saddle mounted on the rear of the machine,
The parts that you need to replace would be the plastic glides mounted in the front of the drum that run on teflon pads glued to the rim around the door. When they get bad you start to notice dammaged clothing.
The drum is allowed to sag down enough that clothing can get into the gap at the bottom and as the drum turns upward the items get pinched when the gap closes at the top.
All these parts can be replaced but be prepared if you do it yourself, this is a tough machine to work on.

Check the drive belt and belt tensioner. From the way you describe it, the belt is loose and with a load in the drum, it will not rotate due to belt slipping.

I use a putty knife to press against the spring clips to pop the top. Then I use a quarter inch nutdriver to remove the screws holding the front panel on. I remove the wires from the door switch and lift out the front panel. I remove the drum and put the dryer on a work bench or a tailgate. I inspect the blower wheel(most of the time they get loose). I get the ball of lint out of the front panel filter housing. I vacuum out the dryer with my shopvac. I oil the rollers and idler and inspect the drum slides for wear. I loop a new belt rib side down to the drum and set it back in the dryer. With my left hand I drop the belt under the motor pulley and raise up the idler looping the belt on it and let the tension hold the idler. I manually slowly turn the drum to make sure the belt is secure and not twisted. I place the front back on. Snap the top down and give her a try. Piece of cake.

Not all that familiar with the Whiteknight dryer series but a dryer is a dryer and your problem sounds like it could be narrowed down to a few things. Based on your description of the problem and without knowing how much use that dryer has been subjected to, it sounds like you have a belt slipping ..or if it is configured like many other dryers..there may be a belt tensioner that came loose. In either case, the drive motor pulley spins andthe belt doesn't have enough tension or friction on the drum to rotate it. You might try cycling it without clothes to see if it spins up... if it does spin ( without assisting it) then once you add the weight of the clothes it doesn't have enough friction to spin the drum. I went to Sears today and asked!  They said use high efficiency detergent (marked HE on the label) and put it directly in the washer with the clothes.  Mystery solved!

ok this sounds simple
if the dryer stopped spining there are 4 things to look at
1 the belt for dryer if this snapped the drum will stop spining
2 the dryer wheels these ware down and break off this is what helps keep dryer in a spin straight
3 this is the crucial one the motor siezed up from lack of appliance oil not being added to a regular maintenance
4 the guages has stopped working but i doubt this if it still keeps a timer going round this would not be it you dont have to run dryer to test guages just set guage to a time and see if it rotates with the time on it
the belt you can check your self by pulling down the dryer pan that will show bottom of dryer with belt if its a belt simple maytag can come out and do a replacement and maintenance on the spot

If the belt looks worn you should replace it. But it sounds like the idler pulley has gone out of position or possibly broken. The idler pulley adds tension to the belt and keeps it from spinning on the drum surface. Check the path of the belt on the bottom of the dryer. That is where the idler pulley is.

If it stops running when hot it may be the motor. The belt or drum rollers would not stop it from running.
