Thermador over/microwave/heating drawer model SMW272YP Bake bottom element will not heat up. I have replaced the element. The display pannel has been replaced in the past, but still keep having the same problem. The broil setting and Convection oven setting will work, but the bottom element will not get hot. Any suggestions appreciated.

see if there is a bad solder connection on the bottom (underside) of the board just below one or more of the small black relay boxes. re-solder if you can or replace the whole board.

f the oven doesn't heat and the on-off light works, test the appliance controls, motor,
and heating element .

CHECK FOR CRACKS IN THE BAKE ELEMENT. IF THE UNIT IS NOT HEATING THE BOTTOM, BUT THE TOP IS STILL HEATING, YOU MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ELEMENT. THIS IS A 220 VOLT OVEN WITH 110 VOLTS ALWAYS GOING TO THIS ELEMENT, SO TURNING OF THE BREAKER IS VITAL FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. WITH AN OHM METER, UNINSTALL THE ELEMENT AND CHECK BOTH WIRE CONNECTIONS FOR OHMS. YOU SHOULD GET SOME KIND OF READING BETWEEN 10 OHMS AND 500 OHMS. IF YOU'RE NOT AT LEAST GETTING A SOLID READING, REPLACE THIS ELEMENT.

Same things for me. Thermador ought to be held responsible for this because it is a flaw for all of these ovens.

The switches on the first circcuit card mounted horizontally in the space above the microwave enclosure and behind the control pannel have burned to the point that they no longer engage properly to close the power to the oven heating elements. I do not know anyone who has removed the plastic covers and cleaned them to the point of working again properly and do not recommend trying that approach. The only sure solution is to replace the circuit card that has the three switches.

since you said the broiler does work , take the wires off the broiler element and put on the bake . then when you put on the broiler the bake should work . the light bulb principle, just remember to wrap all loose wire with electrical tape and disconnect from wall while working.

I found I have this exact problem. Same bake preheat issue: I can bake if I set broil first. However, the oven doesn't work if I press bake first. The control board has already been replaced a couple times over the years. Is this another replacement??

After removing the racks, rack rails and the back plate I removed the 2 screws the hold the bake element. Lifting the front of the bake element up and carefully pulling the element out and gently moving the element so the connector clear the hole I was able to disconnect the wire. After testing for continuity with an ohm meter (non found) I determined the element need to be replaced. $37 and 45 minutes total.
