Trouble connecting WD mybook essential to net gear d6300 wirelessly

I have recently purchased a WD mybook essentials which I have been told I will be able to attach to a netgear D6300 wireless router using my macbook pro. I was wanting to be able to wirelessly transfer/access files between my Mac and the external hard drive without having to connect a cable. I am having issues doing this - I have tried going to GO, Connect to Server and connecting to smb://readyshare, however this comes up with an error message: The Server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. I guess my questions are: is it even possible to connect and transfer my files from my mac wirelessly using the WD mybook essential with the net gear D6300 or do I need another type of portable hard drive? Also, are there any ways to troubleshoot the error message related to connecting the readyshare? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks heaps!

SOURCE: Mac not recognizing External Western Digital HD.

the problem is that your western digital operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple macs is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

SOURCE: How to make WD MyBook

this will not work by it self you will either need to buy a computer with media software that will support your hard drive or a DVR that will support you hard drive.
the hard drive connected to the device you have tried to connect to are not smart devices they will not support a stand alone external drive even though there is a usb port.

SOURCE: I have a WD MyBook

I would suspect that either the USB cable or port is the problem. Change the USB port (On the Mac or on the WD MyBook (I don't know if it has more than one USB port) that the cable is connected to and see if that improves the situation, if it still happens change the USB cable. Hope this helps.

Notebook does not recognize My Book / Western Digital hard drive

Did it ever work?

Connect the MyBook to a different desktop computer.
If it is not recognized, then the MyBook definitely has a problem.
Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced,
or check W.D.'s "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new W.D. drive through W.D.'s web-site, and get a discount.

MY BOOK ESSENTIAL is connected on computer with the usb cable and is also pluged in a power socket. The blue light is on but MY BOOK is nowhere in the system. It's not where it used to be in My computer and...

The disk-drive inside the enclosure is problematic.

Open the enclosure, to get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.
Then, access W.D.'s web-site, to check the warranty-status of the drive. If the warranty still is valid, they will replace it, at minimal cost to you.
If the warranty has expired, purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and transplant it into the enclosure, to "resuscitate" your device.

My Western digital 1tb wont work inspite of drivers being instal

Mybook does not require any additional driver to work on systems from Win XP onward, same for recents Linux and MAC OS.
If the drive is not detected on more of one computer, then it is usually because of a fault.
Try a replacement cable (mybook uses Mini USB to USB, available at computer and at camera shops). If still no luck contact WD, mybooks have one year warranty. If you want to recover data, the disk must be mounted on a different enclosure, that service can be asked when discussing repair.

HOW TO CHANGE 320GB SATA HDD TO 500GB SATA

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.
