I just purchased this Ryobi 26cc Power Head from HD today. Its the trimmer that you can change out different attachments on it. An hour ago I pulled it out of the box, made sure I was following the directions completely, and started it up. Starts up great, only issue is that when I move the selector from START to RUN (there are only 2 positions) and squeeze the throttle trigger putters out. It runs great like it should when the trigger is about half squeezed. While researching what the issue could be, I came across the idle screw adjustment. So I went back out and tweaked with it for about 30 min and nothing has changed as far as puttering out. Another thing I found interesting was that the trimmer attachment I had on it wasn't even spinning when it started to die out at full throttle. It has gas in it that's a week old, but has new 2 cycle oil in it. Hopefully I am being descriptive enough. Thank you.

you need to adjust the high speed needle turn it out in 1/4 increments as you throttle it, low speed may have to come out alittle but do high speed first. I had to answer this as I use to have a pastor john in sturgeon bay, miss him alot.
SOURCE: Problem with gas trimmer staying started
That is sooooo right. I had the same problem and after putting the whole machine apart I finally spotted those two screws next to the carbutator, and by adjusting them I managed to get the problem fixed. Note that if the machine turns itself off when you hit the gas, it may be that the air intake or the gas intake are either too open or too close. So, adjust them to your flavor....

My straight shaft trimmer will idle but dies when the I pull the trigger.

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

Yes. It sounds like you need to clean the carburetor. Take the carb. off, disassemble and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure to clean the small screen in carb. Clean the small portals with a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth). They work great for this job. Reassemble carb. and try starting. If this doesn't cure the problem then you will need to buy a new carb. kit and replace the needle valve, gasket(s), diaphragm, & small screen.

I also wanted to add that I started it up WITHOUT the trimmer attachment on and squeezed the trigger and everything worked fine like it was supposed to, Now I am thinking that the drive shaft for my attachments are just old and worn. Could a drive shaft on my trimmer attachment cause the power head to bog down or die out if the drive shaft is worn? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
