Replace dc17 brush motor

The reset feature did not work for me, so i have to replace the brush motor. But I can't figure out how to get to the brush motor without breaking a plastic part! HELP! I've removed just about every screw I can find and also a clear plastic 'ring' type pin holder. I still cant reach the motor.

SOURCE: roller motor on a DC17 dyson wont turn on

there is a reset button under the cover that houses the on/off switches. remove the handle/wand and look on the back (where the top of the hose sits) for 2 screws (its a torx/star head screw size t10 i believe). remove them and locate 4 small locking tabs that hold the switch cover to the frame of the vacuum. Depress them and pop the cover off (2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom). Youll see 3 switches (2 square red buttons and one small cylindrical shaped one). Push the small red one (the one to the left if my memory serves me right). you should hear a click. if you do than the switch is reset. if not check all connections to all 3 switches. if you see nothing loose or not connected, you may need a new brushbar motor. try it

SOURCE: In need of a picture of the on/off switch for Dyson DC17.

This is over a year too late, but perhaps this will help other people in your situation. Here is how the switch assembly should go together:

I have a Dyson dc17 I have changed the belt cleaned the brush bar clean the bar motor reset the switch and still when i vacuum the brush bar just stops does not rattle. does not do it on bare floors or...

hooked rugs produce the highest amount of friction opposing the brush rotation, which can over heat the drive motor. try using a height setting that raises the brush so that it barely touches the pile. If this issue has been going on for some time, you may need to replace the drive motor.

Dyson DC17 Loud Noise when using brush bar. I have replaced the brush bar and belt with new ones. No load screaming until using brush bar. Pretty sure its the brush bar motor bearings. Can these be...

Hi Ed,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC17. It's worth checking that the new brush bar and belt are fitted correctly, and rotate freely. The video attached may help in making sure it's correctly aligned.

It's worth checking that no threads, hair or debris are caught within the machine. The brush bar motor itself isn't designed to be serviced, and we would advise against attempting this in case further damage is caused. I'd encourage you to email our experts directly with our contact details - you can reach them at [email protected]. Someone will be in touch as soon as possible to take you through some diagnostic checks to confirm what's causing the noise.

If you'd prefer to call our customer Helpline, you can reach us on 1-866-693-9766.

Best wishes,

DC17 suction motor stopped

It could be that your cyclone needs to be replaced. Depending on how the unit was cleaned (the cyclone in particular). Some people who service these machines wash the cyclone with out completely dismantling it, they just fill it with water and shake stuff out of it. This can cause debris inside the cyclone to become lodged causing clogs. If after checking for clogs and if your changeover valve is working (the piece that moves back and forth on the side of the machine when you pull the handle back to vacuum carpets) and the machine is in the upright posistion and the hose doesn't work, then you probably have a cyclone problem.

If you need any help feel free to contact me.

My dyson dc17 turn on but doesn't turn

Hi there,
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC17. If the brush bar is not spinning it may be obstructed.
Please visit http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=956&product=DC17-ANIMAL for step by step instructions on how to inspect your brush bar and clear any obstructions that may be present.
Once you have carried out these steps you may need to reset your brush bar. To do this please plug your machine in, recline it as if you are preparing to vacuum a carpeted surface, turn your machine on and if the brush bar is not spinning push the silver button next to your power button one time. This should reset the brush and it should begin spinning immediately.
If you are still having difficulty with your machine please contact the Dyson US Helpline at 1-866-693-9766 or the Dyson UK Helpline at 0800 298 0298 so we can provide further assistance.
Best wishes,

I caught the rug in my dyson animal dc17 and now the bar doesnt work, belts fine' motor still comes on and reset doesnt work...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulties with your DC17. The brushbar is designed to cut out if obstructed, so although you've tried resetting it, I'd suggest taking a look at the video below to check everything is correct with the machine.

Please note, the brushbar will not run when the cleaner is standing upright, so recline it into the vacuuming position before you test it. It's also a good idea to press the brushbar on/off button twice to make sure it's not set to the 'off' position.

You might also want to run through the steps shown in our online support guide:

If you're followed these steps and are still having issues, please get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected].

The brush roller is not spinning on my dyson dc17 already changed the belt where is this reset button

well there actually isnt a reset button on the dc17's
there is 3 things that could be wrong
1. the roller switch could be damaged. sometimes they short out over time.
2. the roller motor may have burnt out. if it was under a lot of tension or pressure or any moisture that will do it
3. the micro switch which tells the roller motor that the vacuum has been reclined and that the roller can be engaged.

the only way to really fix it is to take it in to and authorized dealer. your vacuum has a 5 year warranty so if you have your proof of purchase and your within that time frame then I would definitely take it in and get it taken care of free of charge
