Sansa Fuze 8GB will not power on - in a lock/frozen mode?

My Fuze had been playing fine on Tuesday - battery was low and unit shut itself down. I plugged the unit in last night to charge it. It charged for nine hours, and is fully charged.

When I try to slide the power switch (on the side of the unit) up to turn the power on, I get a message "Please unlock the HOLD switch to power on." This is followed by another line of text "System shutdown" and then the unit turns itself off.

I've tried turning the power on several times and receive the same message.

I've moved the switch to the hold position momentarily to try and unlock the buttons, but have had no luck.

I plugged the unit into the computer (the screen shows the last song I was playing) and tried pressing the buttons (power, home, pause/play, etc) and the unit display a big padlock over the screen.

Any suggestions as to how to get it out of this mode?

Should have added that neither my computer at work nor my computer at home will even recognize my Fuze - it doesn't stay powered up long enough to enven give them a chance to realize there's a new piece of hardware.

I also tried going to the Sandisk website to download firmware, but there's no way to install it if the computer doesn't recognize the player is even there.

SOURCE: Sansa MP3 Player will not turn on

I had the exact same problem it was after I ran a new firmware update, it flashed on and then turned off and would not turn on or recognize the computer. Solution: Since i didn't have a mini screwdriver to take the battery out, I held down the menu and power button for 15 seconds let go and it powered right up and works great.

SOURCE: Battery Problem???

Ok it takes a while but heres the solution. Slide the hold button to ON and hold down the REC button. While still holding the REC button, connect the USB port and wait for your PC to find it. Once it has found it type this link in to download Firm Ware. www.sandisk.com/assets/file/downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe It may take a while but it is worth the wait.Once it is downloaded to your player EJECT!!! the player before disconnecting the USB port. Now just wait for it to format yor player and it should be working good as new again. =)

SOURCE: Sansa E250 Black screen lighted wheel, wont do nothing else.

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

In order to solve this problem you have to push the 'off' switch toward the power button. Hold it for roughly about 10 seconds and it will automatically shut off. Hope this helps =)

The screen is frozen and I cannot play music and i cannot find the reset button

If your Sansa Fuze MP3 player becomes frozen or unresponsive, you may need to reset the unit.
To do so, simply slide and hold the Power button on the side of the unit. Hold it for about 10 seconds and the player should reset.
If this does not work, I recommend plugging the device into a computer, or charger.

Locked

If the power switch is all the way down (closest to the headset jack) the unit is locked. Simply slide the switch away from that position and release it.
If the unit is frozen, slide the power switch all the way up and hold it in place for fifteen seconds.

My 8Gb Sansa Fuze has just completely died: it won't switxh on at all. The battery had been fully chaged from my laptop and it had just finished playing a track from a playlist. Any ideas?

Same exact problem.....What got it working again was this. Plug the usb cord into computer first. Then while holding the the Fuze's power button in the ON position, plug the cable into the bottom of the Fuze. This was the only thing that worked for me.

Sansa e260 will not power up

Okay what you do for this is hold down the power button for 20-25 seconds or so. This will reset your Sansa e260 and then it will power up like normal. I have had this problem before. If that doesn't work then I don't know what will.
