Computer chips in cartridges must be reset before the printer will recognize them as full. If you paid a shop to refill your cartridges take them back and complain. The best places will test the refilled cartridge before giving it to you.

Please note durability of prints using cheap ink is usually very poor, and as a result the manufacturers ink is usually much the better choice.

Mp140 printer- do I have to put both black and color cartridges? I have only black here and printer has an error.

Yes both ink cartridges need to be installed in the printer for it to work.

You will either need to purchase new Canon ink cartridges for your printer or refill your old ones.

Take care!

Dear Adviser The Canon cartridges for my Pixma MP140 printer have run out of ink as indicated both on the printer by the E4 signal and on the computer by a pop up window when trying to print a...

Hello, the printer Canon Pixma MP140 has cartridges with no chips. The printer reads the serial from the cartridge and tells you an estimated ink level. My recomandation is to press the resume/cancel buton for at least 10 seconds, that being the method to cancel the ink counter. After you press the resume/cancel buton you will be able to print, scan and copyas you did before.
The only disadvantage is that your printer will never show the ink level for this set of refilled cartridges, but it will work as well as brand new cartridges.

Coloured ink not registering

You can only refill those cartridges if you do it before the ink is empty. After that you need a new cartridge or a chip resetter to reset the chip on the cartridge so it will work again.

MP140 can't recognise the black cartridge that I've just installed. Error code 4 - any ideas? I've tried the manual - nothing, and not much luck online - Thanks

Error code 4 normally indicates that there is no unk, and the solution is by installing a genuine cartridge, Try to use Black PG40 remanufactured Canon printer ink cartridge. This cartridge is a high capacity cartridge which has been filled with 23ml of ink compared with the 16ml (Black) that you get with the originals. Compatible with: Canon Pixma MP140. if this error still occur it is better that you try the following procedure below:-

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP140 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. You should also be prompted, asking if you wish to disable ink level detecting. Agree to do so, and you won’t get the warnings again because the ink levels won’t be monitored by the printer.

Thanks

I have a pixma mp10 scaner and printer it will not scan the light flashes E and 6. What can I do to fix this? Barbara Nash

Halo Barbara,
Did you mean Pixma MP140/160/150/170/180?. I never hear Canon pixma MP10. Well,it doesn't matter. Did you refill your cartridge?. Error code E6 indicates that ink level is not detected properly by the printer. It usually occurs in refilled cartridge. To fix this problem you need to deactivate ink level detection function by performing following procedure:
For MP150/160/170/180: Press START button (Black or Colour)
For MP140: Hold down STOP/RESET button for about 9 seconds

Please rate me as Fixya if this solution useful for you. Thanks

Reset ink level on CANON MP 140 PIXMA PRINTER

How to reset the Canon MP150 after a refill (Step 10 concerns refill; instructions below the steps):
Method1 (Safe Factory Method):
1) Disconnect the printer’s power outlet
2) Press and hold the power button while connecting the power outlet back.
3) While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice.(red circle with a triangle)
4) Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 0.
5) Press + to change the value from 0 to 1.
6) When this value is 1, press colour button; this will light up two leds.
One is for plain paper and the other for photo paper. At this point is feed the printer with paper.
7) Press the power button twice and the printer will print a some stuff (if it doesn't print by itself, then press the "color" button once and the test sheet will print). Don’t worry much about the printed material. I got some stripped lines and some numbers. I believe that my colour cartridge is clogged which is why I got the green strips.
When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero.
8 ) Open the printer cover cover (not the scanner cover) and remove the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.
9) Close the lid and turn on the printer.
10) Refill cartridges and place them back in their nice little abode in the printer.
