This computer runs well but if turned off for a week will draw down the main battery to about 30%. Recharges well when turned back on. Changed CMOS battery. I have several main batteries and chargers. All works the same way. If main battery is taken out, it only drops to 98% in one week. With no main battery in C600, pulls the CMOS battery down so as to have to reset when coming up. Problem started about 2 months ago when I noticed that the battery charged for a long time after being turned on. All batteries work well in another computer. All batteries DO charge when plugged into AC. Main battery charges at normal rate and time for the percentage it was down as compared to another machine. It is not a charging problem. It is not a running problem. It only occurs when the machine is off. I have made sure that it is not going into stand-by or hibernation when turning off.
A 18 year old laptop not desktop .
its junk , put in in the recycle bin, no really
but that drain is caused (not in sleep or hibernate)
cause by bad chips on the mobo.
bad modules that us wake on feature or bad mobo.
strip it down, see if just mobo does the drain
end the drama , strip it down.
the RTC_VCC lines on the mobo go to not just the south bridge. other chips, or modules.
remove all modules, wifi,modem, all.
if still bad, kiss of one MOBO (my guess ESD zapped)
in your case, if the RTC battery drops below 2.9v, in a short time ,then you have,
bad motherboard, or some module on it is bad.
a fact. why mess at all in zero value PC.
why not go to good will and spend $20
or the $1 lobster tails, in Vietnam. (MIB)
go wild with cash.
I could fix it but would not, not me.
you did all steps
but skipped 1 step
the strip down test. (all things removed but not CPU.)
then last CPU out.(if in socket)

SOURCE: my c600 is not puttin power in battery
if its the battery with a press button that lights up 5 green lights.. if u hold it for about 6 seconds it should light up all or some in a row like 000.. ( depends on charge it has) after 6 seconds none should flash , they should turn off . if any do flash or led green are missing in between its likely a bad battery.
SOURCE: dell d620 will not go into charge mode
This is usually caused by a bad battery. Sounds like both batteries are not working properly. They may still hold some charge, but they are wearing out. After all, they are batteries, and bateries wear out. Keep in mind that some batteries are better than others, even though they may be the same brand, some will hold a charge longer, and some wear out faster. I'm on my second new battery in a year and a half on my Dell, the first held a great charge but wore out after approx 8 months, the one I'm using now still charges fine but only last about an hour and 15 mins.

Here goes, first download the A12 BIOS from this page or others,
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/BIOS/Dell/index5.shtml
Then, Run this file to make a bootable bios floppy disk. Reboot the laptop floppy will start dos mode, the updater will detect any bios newer then A12 and say finished without changing anything and come to an a: prompt.
type dir for a list of files on the floppy. If your typing gets you wierd symbols try holding the Fn key (lower left) lookfor the filename C600_A12.exe or somthing like this. type it at the a prompt exact. The bios flash will check system bios and ask your permission to revert back to A12. say Y.
Computer will reboot. take floppy out.
My batteries charge grat now, but I don't get all ythe settings pages in Bios that I should, It seems to hang when i enter Bios. Laptop works fine though. i have installed and tries all bios from A12 yo A23, the A12 seems to be the best. No problems from winXP.
SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1200 Charging Problem
Was the battery a Dell replacement? or was it a Chinese replacement battery?
Your charging circuit may have been damaged.
SOURCE: Power problems Inspirion 8600-battery not charging
Most Dell batteries have an LED indicator that allows users to see how much run time and how much overall battery life are available at the touch of a button.
To check battery charge, press the button and the number of lights that appear will tell you charge status. If all lights appear, you have a fully charged battery. Each light that appears accounts for approximately 20% charge.
To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition and approximately more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, approximately less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery
if the ac adapter will power the laptop without the battery installed its fine. if the cord is fine and your battery is fine its a mother board issue and it will most likely have to be replaced
Turn
the computer upside-down and to help prevent damage to the system board,
remove the main battery before working inside the computer.
Remove the main battery: Slide the battery-bay latch release on the bottom of the
computer and then remove the battery from the battery
bay.
Remove the CMOS battery- loosen the captive screw on the RAM cover, and
then remove the cover. Use a plastic scribe to slide into the guide on the side
of the coin-cell battery compartment, and lift the battery out.
When you replace the battery, insert it at a
30-degree angle under the clip with the positive (identified by a plus [+]
symbol) side up, and then push it into place.
You BIOS password should now be reset.
