Oil change for hobart h-600 mixer

What is the correct oil to use for the hobart h-600 mixer?

  • Jean Jenner
    Jean Jenner Mar 25, 2017

I own a Hobart H600 wich I have been using for 33 years. Looking on the internet everybody servicing Hobart mixer seems to have an opinion on what lubricant to use. The Hobart Service Manual I have for the H600/P660/L800 calls for "Mobile Gear 634" for the gear box. As to the planetary, for model with a Planetary oil pump use the same oil "Mobile Gear 634". Without a Planetary oil pump use "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2". The slideways and Bowl lift screws should be lubricated with a light coat of "Lubriplate 630AA" The bowl lift gearing should be lubricated with "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2"

90 weight gear oil is o.k. Goto pep boy's or any auto parts store and ask for gear oil for a 2008 ford f-250,same oil as mixer.

  • J. Hobart Tech Jul 23, 2014

I know we can use 90weight for the gear box, but what about the planetary that fills from a allen head screw?

How much oil does my H 600 Mixer hold ( Hobart in the Transmission

1 gallon of 90w Gear Oil -- can be purchased from AUTOZONE! Make sure when you have completely drained from the large drain screw from under the mixer toward the back of where the attachments go on but not part of the part that spins around known as the Beater shaft! Once you have drained out all of the oil -- from the top where the front screw attaches the head or cap of the mixer -- add the oil there and make sure you are watching the sight glass to see when it is at the HALF way mark in other words when the oil level (TIP: Use a bright led flashlight to shine directly at this sight glass to view level) reaches to the midway mark of the oval sight glass, THEN STOP! It is full! Carefully start mixer on 1st gear and then 2nd so on and so forth to make sure everything is getting relubricated correctly and slowly -- don't just go setting it on 3rd or 4th speeds as you want to baby the mixer when you just put in new gear oil

Hope that helps!

HELLO, My name is Timothy and I got a motor repaired for the Hobart H 600 stand mixer and I need to ask one Question. What is the gear oil that this model takes as I lost some of the gear oil during...

Planetary takes six ounces 150 weight gear oil if completely drained (i.e. Exxon Spartan EP 150 or equivalent). Transmission uses one gallon 460 weight (yeah, 460 weight!) gear oil (Exxon Spartan EP 460 or equivalent).
