Any suggestions about how to remove a stubborn planetary from Hobart N 50?

Try this.

Take two flat blade screwdrivers and slip the blades between the planetary and the mixer body (on opposite sides) pry it off.

This has worked for me.

I have a older Hobart N50 mixer. I am trying to remove the planetary shaft. I removed the pin on the gear. How do you remove the shaft off of the gear to pull it out on the planetary side?

After the pin is removed, place a flat-blade screw driver at opposite sides of the planetary in the small gap between it and the housing. Gently pry off the planetary.

Hobart 600

Spindle? Are you refering to the planetary that holds the beater?Sometimes they are froze so bad that they have to be cut off. There are two threaded holes in the bottom of the planetary that can be utilized with the proper puller. The two holes that I am speaking of may still have bolts in them. The bolts are not securing anything, they are just there to keep the holes clean.

Trying to find what the shaft assembly looks like on a Hobart H600 Mixer

b1sam - You might try using the very easy "Hobart" smartparts webapp on the Hobart website. Cut and paste this into your browser Address line: http://catserv1.itwfeg.com/Hobart-Root/assynode.cfm From there you can select from 19 assemblies to review. Each assembly includes a parts list and an exploded view of the assembly. Based on your comment 'shaft assembly', I believe you want to look at either #12, Transmission Unit or #13, Planetary Unit.
Good Luck... I hope this is helpful.

HOBART H600 Leaks oil.

There's an o-ring that goes around the attachment shaft,if you get a flashlight and look into the hole you will see a screw (left handed threads),remove screw and pull out shaft.Put the o-ring on and install the shaft and screw.

Planetary Cover removal

Using flat screwdriver, remove upper main shaft cover screws (3 of them) to expose shaft nut. Using 3/4" wrench, remove nut and washer on top of main shaft. Using 9/16" wrench, remove double nuts and washers on both small shafts (the double bearing-retainer plate can stay screwed on). Using flat screwdriver, carefully pry stainless drip ring from lower housing (it's just press-fit). Using 3/4" wrench, remove acorn nut and locknut from bottom of main shaft (hold on to the housing, it's gonna drop down and it's HEAVY). Using flat screwdriver, remove cast iron cover hold-down screws (4). Place wood block over end of main shaft bottom to protect threads, and tap upward with a hammer. Don't go crazy with hammer, top housing could go flying. It may take several taps (it's on tight). Increase force slowly so as to minimize chance of damage. Prying out the two press caps from upper housing with a flat screwdriver will give you a place to stick your fingers to lift cover off once it's tapped loose. That'll get the top housing off. But planetary shaft isn't coming out without complete transmission dis-assembly. Better get a book, or better still, hire a pro. Just be careful with Hobart factory repairmen. I've had a VERY bad experience with a VERY highly-paid factory tech. You may have better luck than me, but I'd ask around at a few restaurants and search the 'net for an independant repairman. They tend to work harder for less money than factory guys, and take more pride in their work. Hope this helps!

How to completely dismantle a Hobart N50 or KitchenAid Model G

If you only want to service the unit and not open the case, you can add grease through the gear shifter plate opening once you remove it. if you have a grease gun with a flex nozzle that's a bonus.
If not it is a messy job. Keep lots of paper towels at hand and use a narrow spatula to get the grease inside. Get as much in as you possibly can.

To remove planetary, with pin removed, spray a bit of wd-40 or other penetrating oil into where the pin came out of let it penetrate for a few minutes. Plan-A Take two screwdrivers and gently try to pry the planetary away from the body of the mixer. Plan-B Add a bit more lubricant to the shaft pin area and install a beater, then try prying with one screwdriver while putting downward pressure on the beater, alternate prying on both sides of planetary. Excessive force at the planetary top can/will crack it as it is a molded piece of metal. If you found this solution helpfull, please rate it. Good luck.
