Have a 2006 Samsung PS-42C7S. Screen constantly flashing at about 1/2 second rate picture shows mostly garbled white noise with some coloured pixel dispersed in between. There are large random areas of the screen which remain blank during each flash and this is not confined to the same area of the tube and changes with each flash. No visible picture from inputs. Audio/volume and channel-change all work fine with clear reception of audio tv signal. Menu does not appear on screen. Have opened the back to visually check for bulging caps, all seem to be fine on all boards. There is a constant high frequency ticking sound coming from the boards on both side of the tube and possibly also the power board (don't know what the side boards are called). Have tested DC voltage outputs from power board with DMM, VS and all other DC signals with no load attached are within specified range. Also tried DMM on AC setting to see if there was any unusual ripple getting through but only very low insignificant measurements were found. Would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction in order to further isolate the problem area. Have no experience repairing Plasma TV's, although I do have a technical background and some basic electronics experience (have recapped several motherboards and LCD monitors in the past). Do not have CRO only DMM. Many thanks in advance. Regards, Tony.

Hi Kumar. Thanks for the advice. I managed to locate the problem. It appears that 2 of the IC's on the buffer board have burnt out. The 2 IC's in question are actualy hidden from view when you first open the TV as they are located underneath the side input area and are covered by a thin metal plate. As soon as I removed he plate to expose the entire buffer board it was immediately apparent that the 2 IC's were damaged with the casing burnt right through. I think it is a poor design feature of this TV that these chips are in a confined space under a metal plate which aids in retaining localised heat. The other IC's on the board are at least in an open area where air can easily flow through and help take away some of the heat build up. Anyway, given the price for a new board and the age of the TV it is not really worthwhile repairing it. Thanks again for your help.

SOURCE: sound no picture, which component is tcon board? where all audio/video/cable/hdmi plug in to?
I have LNS4692D. Returned from vacation, turned tv on - no picture. Tried turning tv off for 4 hours- nothing. Symptoms are: tv is on - no picture , just sound; menu doesn't show, volume bar doesn't show;E.Saving is working - the backlight is changing from lighter to darker.
Found this website and ordered T-con, otherwise known as the LCD panel driver board, p/n# Bn8101286a ( thanks premtech) from partstore.com for $124. Part number BN81-01286A A/S T-CON Board.
Installation:
1.Remove plastic cover. There is an arrow for each screw that needs to be removed. Make sure to unscrew pins next to VGA port. I've spent some time trying to figure out what else is holding the plastic panel until I found this pins.
2. Remove big metal shield in the middle of tv that is covering main components. This shield is being held by small black screws all around it.
At this point you will see cover of T-CON. Here is the picture
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=118863&d=1220531321 (thanks ldac9). Do not attempt to remove that cover yet. Proceed with a next step
3.Remove metal panel that holds main components. Locate big chrome screws that have arrows pointing to them and unscrew them. Remove 2 more screws on the bottom of the panel that holds it together with a box for cables. At this point the main panel will be lose
4. Carefully start lifting the panel. You will see that there are connectors going from components on the panel to components on the lower panel and T-CON. Carefully unplug these components and raise the main panel.
5. Remove 4 screws that holds T-CON cover. Pull the cover so that T-CON is completely exposed. The cover is connected by thin alluminum , don't hesitate to pull it , but don't rip it out.
6. Once T-CON is exposed you will see 2 red ribbons. I've spent some time to figure out how unplug those from old T-CON board. Here is the suggestion. Don't try to pull it out. All you need to do is to lift small plastic lever that is part of a connector. Then ribbon can be slided out. If not sure what to do, see how this is done on the new T-CON. It has a principle of buckle on airplain safety belts.
7. Remove old T-CON and install new you.
8. Follow reverse order.
I've never fixed TV before , but this was totally successful project.
SOURCE: samsung tv turning off by itself
I had a similar problem where my 61" Samsung DLP was turning itself off very frequently I had resolved to try replacing the bulb. I called a local TV repair place to see if they had my buld in stock. The guy I spoke to actually told me how to fix my problem! There is a little blue switch behind the bulb access door. The inside of the door has a little piece that presses the switch down. The switch is supposed to work correctly weather the switch is in the up or down position but samsung forgot to take expansion from heat into account. If the switch is held in the upper position by the door and the plastic expands to a certain point, it triggers the set to shut off. This does not occur of the switch is held in the lower position. What you need to do is take the access door off and put it back on by sliding it into position from above. That will hold the switch in the down position, eliminating the problem. My set has not **** itself off ever since.

It sounds like the backlight is out. If you can see a faint image that changes then this is the case. You either need to send in for repair or replace. It can if you are lucky be a connection. You can try removing the video cable and try another source or cable.
SOURCE: Hello, I have a Samsung LN-S4692D.
You cannot test the T-Con bd with a meter. However if you have the luxury of having another same model tv, you can install the bought T-Con bd and see if it is good or bad. Since you said the Menu and channel flashses, then I would replace the Main board.
